Hi Mike,

I have a son and daughter with the same age gap as yours! They're pure barefooters too, even as adults, and still love having their soles as black as they can. We decided to let them live completely barefoot and donate all their footwear when they were a year younger than yours, and I think that's the last time I can remember their soles not being at least grey with dirt. Much like Anita's daughter, they did both cheat a bit with "sole makeup" whenever it was too wet for them to get naturally stained. As long as they didn't leave footprints on the carpet or their beds it was fine with us, but it's surprising just how dirty they could get without leaving a trail.
