Subject: I have judged Ava. She comes off incredibly fake and rehearsed and unlikeable in interviews. If she can tone that down and come off like a relatable, friendly young woman, I think that will help tremendously. She has the rest! And I bet she really is a nice gal; it's just those interviews count for a lot and leave a lasting impression.

In reply to: 's message, "She was not the strongest, Ava was. Ava had the whole package: talented, pretty, fit and thin (as most dancers are), smart and knows what looks good on her on stage. Aside from her talent costume Brittany didn’t look good on stage. The hairpiece wasn’t blended and was frizzy and her gown looked like an Elvira. Brittany just speaks better because she’s much older and a lawyer. That’s not to say Ava isn’t well spoken. Brittany just has 5 years and a law degree on her. Sadly, for reasons I don’t understand, it seems MOV isn’t going to crown Ava. It will probably be Caroline and we will be back to hearing that mom crow on here." on 13:06:52 06/25/23 Sun

[> [> [> [> Subject: How many times have you judged Ava and when was it? You seem to say the same thing about her over and over on this board, but a lot can change in a few months let alone a few years. Also, I don’t think she sounds fake. She sounds like a seasoned pageant competitor.

[> [> [> [> Subject: Interview is only 25% in Volunteer. All areas of comp are equally weighted at 25% so it doesn’t count “a lot.” Even if Brittany beat her by a lot in interview she didn’t hold a candle to her in fitness, talent or evening gown. It’s ridiculous to think otherwise. At least she can’t do Volunteer again or MAO. She’d look silly in USA. Baylee posted on instagram that she went to Tennessee for Volunteer. I wonder if she will compete at MOV.

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: What you're missing is a girl can have an average talent and still win. She can have an average gown or fitness and still win, but if she's not capable and LIKABLE in interview, it's OVER for her. It's the one competition that affects all the others.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: As a judge, after interviews you're hoping that the best interviewers- the leaders, the 'winners', the standouts, can also perform on stage. They are they ones you're excited about and looking forward to watching, as they are in contention for the court and crown. But for the rest of the girls after interview, the truth is, they're out of contention. They may win talent, gown, and/or fitness, but they're not winning the title.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Then what’s the point of the pageant? Call it toastmasters with a crown. If all areas are equal then theoretically a girl should be able to do great in 3 of 4 areas and still win if any one wasn’t great. And that’s clearly how MVA judged bc those that say the winner’s interview have said it was bad. Brittany was the opposite and probably did well in interview and flopped everywhere else and didn’t make the semifinals. No matter what anyone says MVA is a beauty pageant that gives out scholarships. You can be really accomplished but if you aren’t beautiful and are overweight you won’t make it to the top.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: All scoring is equal; all competitions are not. Bottom line- if you come off wrong in interview, you're not winning. I'm sorry this disappoints your idealism. It's why they have Final Ballot- to award, but not crown, girls who are overall not the best choice for the title, on THAT day, leaving the best woman crowned.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: Your thoughts in reverse: Ava doesn't hold a candle to Brittney in interview- in likability, maturity or intellect. It’s ridiculous to think otherwise. Brittney was consistent onstage and the best candidate of the bunch to send (Caroline Trennepohl was 2RU).

[> [> [> [> Subject: I haven't judged Ava directly in competition, but I've known her for many years. I've done mock interviews with her. She comes off as a know it all. She's very smart and she's very aware of it, which is great. But the way she presents her intelligence can come off as cold and condescending. Ava can seem very fake, especially in the interview room. Its a shame, because she is a very strong competitor. She is also a sore loser, which doesn't help her case. She gets major tunnel vision and assumes she will win, and I think some of that comes out in her interviews as well, if I had to guess.
