OK - a further update.

Tonight I swapped in a replacement chassis and wiring loom, to eliminate that possible cause. CC behaves exactly as before.

Given that a bad CRT wouldn't cause the auto-boot, and having eliminated the wiring loom from the equation (and remembering that the same thing happens with a 575 board as well as a standard l/b) I've come to the inescapable conclusion that I have a faulty a/b on my hands.

So, if any kind person has a working a/b they'd be willing to let me have for a fair price, please let me know.
