First, a quick question for clarification: what worked, the custom install or a manual install using Tome Viewer?

Basically, the hardest part of cannibalising a dead CC board for parts is going to be with the amplifier. They're a b*tch to remove if you don't have a vacuum desolderer or desoldering wick.

The electrolytic cap is simple to remove. The SMT parts are a bit more difficult but will come off easily if you put one soldering iron on each side of them, gently squeeze together, and lift them off the board. I find this works much better than trying to remove SMT parts with only one iron.

As far as the speaker connector goes, you don't even need to drill the holes - you can just melt the solder around the central solder pad, poke a hole through it, and mount the speaker wires in there. Make sure you add a bit of solder to that connection as the amount on the pad isn't intended to hold components in place.

(The 575 uses those pads for pressure contact for its speaker connectors. The CC and CC II don't use them, so they're OK to mess with.)

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to post here.

BTW, did you know you can overclock the 6400 boards to as much as 240MHz? :) Takky's site has details...
