I think what Mr. Watanabe is referring to is the banking in the SIMM itself. Some SIMMs are single-banked; some are double-banked. While I have no clue as to what this means, I have a feeling it might be the problem - the Daystar card's ROMs may only be able to deal with 16MB per bank in a SIMM, so a 32MB double-banked SIMM would be the only way to get 32MB in the Mac.

The Chipmunk RAM guide has useful information for explaining the idea of "banks" in a SIMM or DIMM, as well as a good guide to figuring out what the heck those numbers on the RAM chip mean.

The Sonnet and Apple PPC cards for the 575 are very similar, if I recall correctly, to the Daystar. In fact, I believe (although I could be wrong) that the Sonnet card is simply a 100MHz version of the Apple card, and Sonnet bought the rights from Apple when Apple discontinued the cards.
