thanks for the prompt replies, unfortunately no joy yet....

Power lines - OK, not sure what DS means by one of the reds splitting though, my understanding from Takky site is that bothe reds go from Analog connector to logic connector and that the HDD power soket is spurred off only one of them - and thats how its wired.

Keyboard Switch - this makes a difference, when its switched the `+12V' rail swicthes immediately to ~4V then decays to 0V after about 7 seconds. The same is seen with the `+5V' rail wich rises to ~1-2V before dacaying.

All of this suggests a short in the power rails to me which then causes the power supply to shut down and given it doesn't happen without the logic board in place I reckon it shouldn't be a Analog board problem, so I'll check the power sections of the wiring loom and the logic board.

I'll get there in the end.....

As for the ROMS god knows what they were playing at, the machine was a distinct disappointment after I managed to get it open :(
