Pastor,

I am sorry to tell you this but I am very surprised to read that note from you. I have read a number of your posts and while it has always been clear that you favor the use of corporal punishment and while you have written many posts supporting spanking mothers and supporting kids who take their spankings well, most of your posts have always been reasonable, rational and never devoid of simple common sense.

However, I have to say that this post of yours involves a terrible and bizarre and totally unjustified invasion of the privacy or Cody if it were put into practice. Why in the world should--or would--anyone be asked to keep a private diary of all of their doings and all of their most private and secret thoughts--and then turn them over to a parent of caretaker who would then decide what actions or punishments they should impose based on those entirely private thoughts?

Would YOU like to be forced to do that? Keep a record of ALL of your private thoughts and actions (including any impure thoughts and any private actions, like masturbation, that you have indulged in during any recent period of time? And then would you be very happy to turn those over--all of them--to your "caretakers" or superiors (to your bishop, or to your Board of Church Elders or whatever)? Would you feel perfectly fine doing that and then letting others decide what punishments you should receive?

In your case perhaps, I suppose you could be removed from all your clerical duties, your position as a pastor revoked, or you could "admissions" could be aired before your whole parish--all of your totally private thoughts you might have entertained and considered at any time in the last few weeks or months? Would you think that would be appropriate? Where do they do things like that? Nowhere that I know of! What parents would require their children to do something like that? NONE that I know of! What were you thinking of when you came up with that idea?

I hope you will have the humility to recognize how far off any reasonable suggestions you strayed with that idea, and I think you should apologize to Cody for suggesting such a ridiculous thing for him to do. I just hope you were overworked and over-fatigued when you wrote that. June
