Au contraire. Referees are not perfect either, not a shocking statement. That was good officiating. He made a mistake and he fixed it. Neither team was harmed.

I'd like to try and connect two things I thought about last night. What referees are asked to do is not only make the right call but do it immediately. There was a block on a lay up. It could have been a block or a foul. I can't pretend to know. The ref called foul (maybe you remember this one) but he hesitated SLIGHTLY, maybe 1/2 sec or 1/4 sec. I am pretty sure there was a much larger crowd reaction because of this VERY short delay. Conclusion is, obviously, that referees really have to zone in on their area of responsibility - which constantly changes BTW. Now Michael Kitts sees the Siena player go over the line to retrieve the ball. He calls over and back...but corrects it immediately.

I did my training and started officiating this year. The action moves very fast and it is 1000 times harder to have the responsibility to call the game on the floor than it is to "call" the game from your seat. Michael Kitts is a superb referee but mistakes get made by all of them. The key is fairness and consistency in an everchanging contest. I wasn't perfect on my job yesterday. That all being said, he was part of a large mistake in a Seton Hall / Georgetown game were Seton Hall had 6 players on the floor and no one noticed.

Here is a good one from last night though it counts as good officiating but detracts from the theatre of the game. When Rob Lanier was doing his "swirl and stomp" when FU was granted a time out in a scramble for the ball. The ref who made the call (I believe) ended up by Lanier who was trying to see how much indignation he could express. Kitts sprinted up the sideline straight at Lanier and his refereeing partner and just stood there in support of his partner. Lanier stopped immediately, situation defused. Excellent officiating. Referees are schooled to prevent technical fouls. They are good entertainment but bad for the "game".

Agree that the official you cited is one of the best. But his DC to Bridgeport trip for MAAC game one day after a major Big East game is illustrative of the grinding schedule some of these men have. And it's everyday and sometimes less than 24 hours between gigs. Many NBA players in superb condition don't function well in that scenario.
