Iagree wholeheartedly, the only thing you left out is that he also stated that TOT would not be fired regardless of his final record. As you stated we were 6-15 at the time & things were looking pretty bleak. I also agree that GD deserves some of the credit for assisting TOT last year.

As to a new contract I don't think this is the time to inject distractions, moreover we still have almost half a season remaining in addition to the tournament. No evaluation can be complete at this point, besides if I were TOT I'd want the added bargaining leverage of winning the MAAC & an NCAA appearance. If I'm negotiating for the Univ. I'd be saying in effect you haven't won anything yet but I'd be happy to give you a small increase & 3 more yrs. TOT puts himself in a much better position if he has a championship to bargainwith & if he doesn't win it all he's certainly in no worse shape for having waited. It's obvious this team has turned the corner & he can justifiably take credit for it.

Finally to those who say "ihope TOT is offered an extension & leaves you all high & dry for the lack of support, hypercriticism& lack of patience in building a program..." If you think TOT has endured criticism you should have read the UofM board after Amaker started 0-6 & this is only his 2nd year!!! If TOT can't take the criticism on this board he should stay away from major programs.

I totally agree. His best oppurtunity would be to stay at FF (who will be loaded next year) and build on this season. No one will be knocking down his door to hire a head coach with only one winning season. I would only dump alot money on a coach if he was a "sure thing"...if there is such a thing (ask Fordham about Bob Hill). IMO, if TOT failed this season he would find it difficult to ever land another D-1 coaching job(ask Mitch or Paul). Coaching at a mid-major can catapault a hot coach into the big time. On the other end of the spectrum, it could be coaching suicide if their tenure is not successful.
Once again, kudos to TOT for turning the corner. He desreves it. Still, he is not above criticism.

I also agree that a new contract does not have to happen immediately..... however, the whole negotiation, approval, and Contract preparation process should probably be started so that it can be a done deal by the end of the regular season.

TOT was under a lot of pressure this year. He said at one of the Doc's Roundtables how he understood the expectations and the situation. But he was still going to lead this program, and do the right thing for the long term..... which was to still Schedule tough opponents. It took a lot of guts and confidence for him to do that under the circumstances. I am happy he is succeeding.

Doris set objective and realistic goals, and TOT has blown them away.

I'm also happy he's succeeding, as I said to someone today I've never been happier to be wrong in my life. I would certainly have dreaded the prospect of having to start over with a new coach. I don't necessarily disagree about some preliminary discussions but the last thing this team needs is a distraction.

GD seems to be a person of integrity & I'm sure he'll treat TOT & the Univ. fairly. This team will soon have to deal with the pressure of rising expectations. If they beat Manhattan Thurs. they will be favored to "go all the way". I think that will be enough pressure.

Doris is an idiot.
