Hi Max,
I have no expectation that much of the news I'm getting is unfiltered. I take it in with this attitude: Let's see how the media is interpreting the things it's decided we should know about. And I listen to the BBC and other foreign broadcasts to get a more accurate picture of what's going on in the US.

Does the media have an agenda in reporting the news the way they do, and in choosing what they report on. Sure. Of course.

What is that agenda? Well, it's probably not as insidious as some of my good conspiratorial theorist friends would have me believe. The major media in this country, and all others will tend to report in a way that favors the party in power (the Demopublican Party in the US) simply because if they did not, their reporters would tend to be much less welcomed at major political media events. There are other factors, of course, but it's almost as simple as that. Completely natural and understandable self-interest.

In a very big sense, they are "advertising" for the party/parties in power.

Do they tend, in accordance with the above described theory, to suppress (or just not report on) issues that might be considered quite important to most people? Hmmm. I'm not sure. Let me give them a call and ask them. :) GF, SPNE
