~+~*He stood in the valley, absently staring into the distance. Around him stood images of Shigua, Aira, Izura, Kataryn, Kilian, Yuia, Saku, Keio, and Maila. All of them were holding their palms out, showing the burns in the shapes of their respective guardian spirits. Ilia stared down at the burn on his own hand, representing the element of ice. He stretched his etherial black wings so that he could see them, as an image of his previous set of arctic crystalline wings formed over them.
Ialon stood behind him, just outside the circle of people.*~+~
Ilia- Why couldn't you let them go.......
Ialon- They gave their own lives up, you know that.
Ilia- To protect them from me!
Ialon- You, Ilia, are a child. You do not yet understand the workings of the universe. You will be much happier once you come to terms with the way things are.
Ilia- But you made Auden a long time ago, and even HE hasn't come to terms with it..... Jayke is Yafein's blood heir, and he hasn't accepted it either. Is it just something about out place in life that makes us unable to move on? Are we just doomed to be unhappy, or is it us?
Ialon- An interesting question. I can't answer that one. You know, the Angels of Life have a similar problem.
Ilia- When you took me, you said that 'Insanity will serve this one well.'

Ilia- Does that have anything to do with the fact that Kounai is one that I am supposed to kill?
Ialon- Kounai is an Eyerling. If my information is correct, he was also your best friend. You were close enough, in fact, that you got yourself banished from society to protect him. You weren't all there when you attacked that monk- you can't be all there if you are to survive in a battle against him or those in the same position as him.
Ilia- ....Can I ask you something?
Ialon- You may.
Ilia- Why did you take me as an Angel? I'm not like Auden, and I'm not like Jayke..... They both had a legacy left to them. And some of the other Angels, they have nothing either. Was it random?
Ialon- No, not exactly.
Ilia- Then why? You made me kill so many people, destroy my home.... It couldn't have been worth it.....
Ialon- I have my reasons, Ilia. You'll figure it out on your own in time. I rarely do anything without a reason.
Ilia- ....What about Yuki then?
Ialon- I'm not going to mess with that particular problem. The people that live here will do him more good than his parents ever could.
Ilia- So you're going to help them?
Ialon- ....I had an interesting talk with Treyvan a good many years ago, shortly after Yuki was born. That boy and his siblings have a long road ahead. I'd prefer that the parents, especially Yuki's, stay out of it. I'll keep them at bay long enough....
Ilia- Long enough? Long enough for what?
Ialon- Alas, that is ot for you to know. My advice to you is to stop mourning the phantoms of your past. Kirin is gone, but that group still wanders. They can't die until the Circle is broken. They never officially released you. You still carry your mark, even if you no longer serve it.
Ilia- ....I don't want to be an Angel, Ialon.....
Ialon- Who does?
Ilia- Your Angels of Creation seem pretty happy.
Ialon- Because they save life, they don't take it.
Ilia- Exactly.
Ialon- You know, perhaps you should stop and think about it from my point of view. If everything lasted forever, what would be the point? You wouldn't have to hurry to see decaying ruins, wouldn't have to worry about saying good-bye, wouldn't have to worry about not waking up.... You know what THAT would lead to.

Ilia- Still..... That doesn't justify their deaths....
Ialon- Perhaps not, but it would be better than the alternative. Stay here with your shadows if you wish, I have business to attend to.
