Eunice Track -- Brian F., 00:12:37 06/01/03 Sun

Went to Eunice Track yesterday. Things are coming together pretty well. All the electrical and timing equipment is working. All that is left is to finish the wall in the tower and the men's restroom. We will be out there again today(Sunday) to get some more work done. Anybody that can come by and help would be greatly appreciated. Art is going to try and have races on Father's Day weekend. Will post again and notify of definite opening date. Thanks.

i ran a bluenova with white stripes at hallsville at tha first of tha year. i spun some rod bearings and ad to shout off i'd like to ran again. i was driving a green 69 nova. where are ya'll from i'd rather meet some where else didn't care much for hallsville i race at red river and it is a barely legal street car.

There's 2 blue novas' that run at h'ville. The fast one belongs to Shannon Wheeler aka "lil wheel". He's not from here, he's from Denton, Tx., but a real good friend of ours.
He'd be glad to run ya either at h'ville or red river, he runs both tracks, but he is down at the moment. Not sure for how long.

TX VS LA RACE IN EVADALE -- EDDIE, 00:07:41 05/31/03 Sat

the reason the race was postponed was because someone told paul that he had 3 cars to compete in the race...but they werent ready...paul says ill push the race back a week then..paul called me and after discussing things he realized that he needs to stick to a schedule...you cant work things out for a certain group of people you need to do it according to the schedule u make..
paul is havng growing pains out there no doubt....not positive on the proceedures of certain things....having website builder troubles and most of all trying to make each and every racer happy 100% is complecating things. it will get better as time goes by

in febuary we set the date on june 1st per paul...with all the cluster mess hes gonna run it sat may 31st and june 7th because of the flyers that went out FOR BOTH DATES

the format is bring your butts to the track...find an opponent from the opposite state and do some heads up racing

if we can get a following like tony j,jody and myself did in eunice at the MADNESS races he will put in some sort of purse in the near future.

we have 2 chances to prove once again that the heads up format rules....its up to us to bring the excitement level and spectators to the gate to make it happen.

i have been tied up in buisness and in the process of buying a new home thats why i havent been around and someone was supposed to be staying on top of the situation but i guess if u need it done right do it yourself...lol

hope that clears things up abot the race

1988 s-10 ladder bars and coil overs, 9 inch rear with 4.88 gears, strange spool and axels. it has drag lites with 32x14.5 et drag, and front runners,,,,street legal except for the slicks. it has inspection sticker and tags. full 10 point cage and autometer gauges, quarter stick shifter. it has a 12 gallon fuel cell, mallory 250 fuel pump,and all braided fuel lines. the motor is a 406 bow tie block, callies crank, BME 500 series nitrous rods,lunati pistons, lunati solid roller cam, AFR 227 aluminum heads and they are ported, bowtie intake, t-d shaft rockers, jesel drive belt,msd ignition 7-al, msd dist. and coil.1050 dominator and csi water pump.The motor was built in january by Bill Doucet at doucet motorsports. it has two passes on the motor and about 8 dyno passes. it made 640 hp and 540 trq. i have a freshly rebuilt power glide by trans king and a 5500 tci stall converter also just freshened by transking. the trans and convert do not have a pass on them. i ran it in january with the trans slipping between 1st and 2nd and it ran 9.91 at 134mph. i'll take 12,000 for complete or 8000 for motor or 4500 for rolling chassi. call mike at 1-337 493-1006. eddie thanks for the space

Just got back from Evadale while ago. Well, my car ran perfect, minus a few driver errors I could not have done any better, or asked for a better "tune up"!

We had a buddy drive his truck all the way from Ruston, La. just to run there. It's nothing fancy, just a lil ole "farm truck", it ran from mid to low 14's! Not bad for a lil ole stock truck huh?

jerry i didnt say that i knew how to work on turbo. the statement was that when a turbo car gets in front of you it really hard to catch them i know i had my ass whoop 3 times by them. to my car it could be fix in one night i have all the parts right here. but guess what i dont have time for it . i fish in in two fishing circuit so every weekend im fishing thats what i like to do right now. it will be back one day. i had plenty of people wants to come pick my car up and fix it but i said no. so hell with you. at least i havent borrow someone motor before and gave back to them with blown headgaskets.

Just let me know and all i have is a 3550# 71 Bird with a 10 bolt, so don't think i'm going there to try to be the fastest.....lol. bryan mike wants you to call him. his number is 623-1563 or his shop is 473-8673. tell jen to call him to. you know that big boat runs pretty damn good. he dyno it again in texas the other day with only 15pds of boost with no nos it may over 600 at the rear wheel. and he can turn it to 20-25 pds with nos. that is a real everyday street car. can anyone around here drive there car from coast to coast no but he can. what are going to do when mike and wayne build there future car yall are to say thats a race car not a street car. but it be just like jen car with license plate and inspection sticker. i can promise yall it will be a 7 second car.

You claimed yours was a street car so was it or not. Well I went to Evadale with Jamie and Jen & baby girl yesterday and seen Mali run the best time so for all I have to say is you guys better be ready when yall jump up beside her because that mother is flying. Frenchman you better get that computer adjusted are you are going to get your feeling hurt by a little ole 468 CI. Mike and Wayne leave yalls shit at home yall don't have shit to race with Mali. I usally don't talk about someone elses cars but mali has laid down one hell of a time to beat and getting faster everytime it goes to the track. L.J. was also there and was putting down some impressive numbers he showed his time so I will tell ya the little S-10 ran a best time of 10.64 pretty damn good considering whats in it thats with slapper bars and leaf springs. They are putting down a hell of a road for the rest of us to follow and Wild Women Jen had car problems but still got the Regal run a 13.74 on motor and me I smoked the tires to the 1/8 mile and the car had some other grimblems in it the best time was 14.33 but it will be better the next time.

Heads-up Racing at Evadale -- Angie, 07:17:58 05/15/03 Thu

Gates open at 1pm and the Diesel pick-up trucks will start around 3pm. Paul is adding some additional trophy classes, he will be giving out trophies for the fastest trailored truck and the fastest street legal truck as well as the fastest trailored car and the fastest street legal car. The DeQuincy Street Sweepers will be out in full force again, or should I say our "MOB" of S-10's will be there. The Blue Hood Scooped S-10, the same one that took the street trophy home weekend before last, went 10.76 last Friday night. Good luck and hope to see you all come join in on the fun

Due to Eunice NOT BEING ready for our races this Sat. Mali and the Buick will be going to Evadale either Fri. night or Sat. (not sure yet). IF ANYONE WANTS TO RUN FOR EITHER TOP GUN SPOT OR FOR SUPER STOCK CAR SPOT, WE CAN DO IT AT EVADALE FOR THE TROPHIES.. that's all I know to do since I will no longer have a car to run after this weekend. I would rather race someone for the spot than to just turn the trophy in.

I wish Art luck w/ gettin the track opened back up, but as far as Mali is concerned, she'd rather run @ Evadale.

Likewise, had I known Eunice wouldn't have been ready for the trophy race, I would not have made the challenge. Therefore, if it's good with you, we can have our race next month in Eunice.

OVAL PORT VS RECTANGULAR PORT HEADS -- Undercubed, 21:59:24 05/11/03 Sun

We performed the flow tests of both heads on the exact same SuperFlow flow bench. He also performed the port work on the heads. So variables are kept to a minimum. I don't think you'll find a more appropriate "apples-to-apples" comparison. Here is his description of the work done on the heads:

The rect ports were, in my opinion, "mildly ported". The intake runners were gasket matched, the valve pockets were smoothed out to the runners, and both short sides were cleaned and smoothed... and of course any casting lines were smoothed. There was probably room for some improvements on them but not without removing a bunch of material. I was already concerned with them being 320cc on the intakes that the motor was going to be lazy so I didn't want to make them any bigger. Besides, the only gain was going to be at .600" lift and above. The low lift flow #'s were low and I knew it would only get worse with volume.

The oval port intakes were gasket matched to a Fel-pro intake gasket and was blended back about 2" into the stock cast port. Under the intake valve was blended in the same fashion (out to the stock port) to the full size of the valve right up to the seat. The short side was touched to nock off the high spots. Just the basic bowl blend / gasket match to me. The exhaust was bowl blended to the seat size and down into the stock port as well. I spent some extra time on the short side here. The short side was smoothed and radiused very nicely right up to the seat... and I'm talking less than 1/32nd from the seat and polished as well. I took some material off the top of the exhaust guide and blended out to the roof of the port also but the guide still had an obvious flat spot to it. Both intake and exhaust valves were relieved in the combustion chamber area the same amounts.

As you can see, the numbers speak for themselves. The oval port heads kick butt up until .650" lift, then the rectangular ports take off. The majority of all street/strip or weekend warrior applications are not running over .650" lift cams. Also, you have to take into consideration that the valve is at max lift at only approximately 8% of the time. So, low and mid lift flow numbers are VERY important. That's where the oval port heads really stand out. Technically, there is no winner or loser. It all depends on the application. This is excellent information to prove that oval port heads are the best choice for "milder" applications that are under 500 CI and have a max RPM in the 6500 range. No doubt, the rectangular port heads have their place. They are the choice for ALL-OUT performance. But for less radical combinations, the oval ports are the choice.

I would have to say you need a new flow bench or have that one calibrated. Ask Mali what the results were when the oval port heads were removed and we installed the rectangle ports Over 1 second faster on motor thats prove.

To begin with: Mali's problem was NOT fuel system with oval port heads. When we swapped to rect. ports, we had pickup tube in fuel tank enlarged, and got alum. in fuel system which ate up the pump and gave us hell w/ the carb.
The best time w/ oval port heads, and 1050 dom. was 11:50 on motor.

Best time w/ rect. port heads after repaired fuel system was 10:43 on motor, but our cam is above your specs... more than 650 lift. We have a 685/692 cam lift if that helps ya any.

yep, me and John Forest have been "doin the do" to the old goat. Took out the ball hone and honed the old 389 out to the gills.Used starkist tuna cans for pistons. Got the crank stroked to there aint no stroke left.Going with a new set of 1 1/4" black jack headers.Heres where the power secret is, got a new set of heads, with the huge 1.88 intake valves. We decided the mild steel roll bars were too heavy and put a "brand new PVC system in." (much lighter and has a 200 psi rating.)easy to put in too, glues easy, dont have to fool with that nasty ole welder.(got that tip from another pvc part on sombodys elses car on the board.) chevy boys better watch out now.

i am interested in a super street position#1 that is and want to be sure of the rules. my car cannnot have power added if it is bbc. but the sbc can.so if i am running only 11.7 through mufflers w/a bbc than a sbc can give his the juice and cover me for that position am i reading the rule right.also where are we to race at. any track the holder pics or is the association have a track it likes to run at.i believe i can hook on any track right now. so i am working offshore and am really thinking about this spot. but my problem isi do not have enough motor for the sbc that will be on the juice.so give me some feedback on the rule cause i will challenge regarless of what the small motor gets.i have yet to run on the pro light but hey aint scared. so give me the feed back on this soon pleasze. hoghead the blue camaro.

richard the reason why it was set up that a sb could have n20 and not a big block is because many big blocks can run mid tens on motor and for a normal small block to compete with that they would need spray to compete...

that was the fairest way to set it up when the rules were made

What you really need, Jen. -- Frenchman, 11:14:22 05/04/03 Sun

1) You may want to consider a good body shop that can take those ridiculous gadgets off the body of that slow-poke car. IE: hoodscoop, wheelie-bars, rear-wing, and tractor tires. All this contributes to the laughter when a small-tire car drives around you.
2) Install tire widths that coincide w/ the car's performance potential.
3) Remove those funky, Bozo-looking stripes that went out of style in 1975 along w/ the Saturday Night Disco Fever look.
4) Install some real mufflers and exhaust system.
5) Utilize a suspension system that can navigate through the occasional La. pothole and come out unscathed, unlike that racing 4-link that would wear out within 500 miles or break if actually subjected to street use.
6) Install a real engine that has as much power as your jaws. (Try to do it on pump gas as roadside petroleum vendors don't stock leaded racing gas for real street cars)
Do this and maybe I'll discontinue the ridicule.

More often than not, broken driveshafts are the result of poor suspension/driveline geometry, inherently weak suspension parts, overtightening of the U-bolt straps, or using Band-Aid brand devices, such as transbrakes (strictly race-car stuff) that has absolutely no business on a street-driven car. Revving the engine into the RPM ionosphere and letting go of a button that redirects the oil to produce a better 60' time is a vain attempt to compete with strong engines that can do it without all of the shock-loading. Hydramatic didn't engineer their street automatics to endure this phenomenon; neither did factory driveshafts and U-joints.
The infamous driveshaft that imploded at Evadale was probably due to the aforementioned and not power. If it were power, Mali would be producing trap speeds comparable to "IROC-X"

Finally a Good Day.... -- Tim LeGros, 12:17:04 05/05/03 Mon

Yesterday I went to Evadale Raceway for their Grand Opening and had a great day of racing..It was a Mopar vs GM shootout with the winner of the Mopar bracket racing the winner of the GM bracket..I made it to the final of the GM bracket to only break out by 3/100's of a second against a car dialed in at a 8.84...

He ran 3 over with a .525 light and I ran a 3 under 11.98 on a 12.01 dial with a .538 light..Its pretty awesome to see a 8.90 car go by at 150 mph in the lights !!!

In the 5 rounds of racing I had to run cars dialed in at...9.95 , 10.93 , 10.23 , 12.41 (the only race I left first) and then the 8.84 T/A..After the 3rd round I was the only true street car left running..

The car was consistant as usual and the driver finally didn't have any brain farts during eleminations..

The Evadale track is super nice and smooth and its nice to run a place where all the clocks work..

The track from here on out should only get better because they are putting more stands for spectators and lights to be able to run at night..Plus this place is only about an hour from our house which makes it really nice...

Jamie and Jen it was nice seeing ya'll there and hope you get the Malibu up and running soon...

I hate you all missed out on going to Evadale yesterday. They had the fuel altered cars there along w/ GM vs. Mopar. The altered cars went 200 mph in a 1/4. (frenchy, that's right up your alley) of course they went 6's. I think the new record there was 6:88 at 198 mph. It was awesome.
There was a LS1 truck there pretty cool. A lil girl drove it, it ran 12:12 I don't remember how fast.
Tim LeGros was there w/ his fine car, it was a lil off it's normal times due to the heat.

Well, anyways you people should come check out that track sometime. That's a hooking sob!

My car just got an upgrade. (and she loves it)!!!!!!!!!!
I just don't know what to say about Mali. lol Jamie pulled the rear end, and it's broke too, but he did put the dash back in and it looks awesome now. He did some minor cosmetics on it. I guess Mali will be in the racing hospital pretty soon so Dr. Scott Carroll can do some major surgery on her and hopefully have her fixed in time.

Word of advice for the Top Guns competitors:(not bragging) but if ya wanna beat her- you better dig deeper. lmao

board seems a little slow.I just wanted to report that We had a blast at Race way park this weekend . I didnt stay for the finals sunday but watched eliminations all day Saturday.You can`t beat the feeling of a Top Fuel car or a funny car making a pass. it gives You that tingle all over.I have a few pictures if I can get Eddie to post them.
hope to be making a pass in the Jimmy next month if every thing goes well.

8 second street race on "Americas Most Wanted"!!! -- Andy V., 19:18:59 04/08/03 Tue

Anyone watch Americas Most wanted Saturday night? Seems they are looking for a guy named "Crazy Mo". Why, because he was in a street race with another guy that was video taped. They showed the vidio race on TV from the start to the point where the other guy lost control on the top end and had a nasty crash. They showed the crashed car (Mustang) at the police impound. The engine was a very wild small block Ford with a Wilsons cross bar nitrous system. The Cop said they later found out that the car had run some high 8's at over 150 MPH and he had nearly 40 large in the engine! Why was it impounded? During the crash, he mowed down and killed a woman (who was not watching the race, but walking home from work)! They caught the guy who crashed and he is serving time for man slaughter. Crazy Mo is the guy they are looking for because the law considers him just as guilty because he was racing the guy that crashed (even though he did not crash). Mo actually stopped and looked at the woman lying in the road, but did not get out and try to help her. He instead took off and ran. Anybody still want to street race?

THE FASTEST STREET CAR IN CENLA WENT 11:16 @ 9? MPH. TODAY AT EVADALE. IT'S TRUE. JAMIE BROKE THE DRIVESHAFT INTO PEICES AT THE 1/8 MI, THE DRIVESHAFT FLEW INTO THE CONE AND WIPED OUT THE SYSTEM FOR A LIL WHILE. (AT LEAST 1 PART OF IT) AND THE OTHER PART TRIED TO COME THRU THE FLOOR OF THE CAR IN THE BACK. IT BUSTED THE METAL, BROKE THE NITROUS BRACKET FOR THE BOTTLE(IN BETWEEN THE SEATS), AND DAMN NEAR CAME THROUGH THE BACK OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. OH YEAH, AND ALSO EITHER CUT THE FUEL LINE, OR BUSTED THE TANK, OR BOTH.
I TOLD JAMIE IT'S A DAMN GOOD THING HE WASN'T IN A RAIL....OUCH!!!!!!!!!

ANYWAY- MALI WILL BE GETTIN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WORK DONE ON HER IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Thanks, everyone for the concern over the loss/set-back. Your support means alot to me. I have received calls, e-mails, and offers of help to get the Big Chief back in good health. The damage to the 565 was minimal and repairs will be easy. Turns out the problem was not the crank, but an eroneous bearing. I should be rumblin the streets soon. It sure is gonna feel good to be back in the drivers seat of the Camaro once again!

ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO THE 706 CAME IN THEN MR HARPER GOT REAL QUIET....SEEMS LIKE THE REASON HE WAS SO QUIET WAS BECAUSE HE WAS WORKING ON THE BODY AND INTERIOR OF WHAT WILL BE KNOWN AS BIG WIGGLE

What Is Grudge Racing -- undercubed, 23:28:23 04/01/03 Tue

Do you remember the good ole’ days back in high school or cruising main street on the weekends when all you could hear was the “thumpity thump” of small blocks and big blocks? There was always someone who was “king of the hill” or “top dog” with their Chevy, Ford, AMC, GM or Mopar muscle machine. These were the guys that all the other local hot rodders and wrench heads always tried to beat. I think every town or city in America, no matter how large or small, had a road that was marked off for drag racing and when there was a race set up, this was the place everyone met to see who had the baddest street machine around. It was fast, exciting grass roots racing just like depicted in the movie “American Graffiti” when the Ford coupe took on the ’57 Chevy on an abandoned country road.

Grass roots racing is exactly what grudge racing is. In grudge racing, you will not find nationally known drivers, no national sanctioning bodies, no national sponsorships or television coverage. These guys and gals are not running for national fame or thousands of dollars in points funding. What you will find in grudge racing is fast, wild and exciting racing that draws crowds by the thousands to pull for their favorite local “grass roots driver” every week at the local grudge track. Grudge racers are the local hometown guy that works on his own car at night or on weekends in his own yard or shop. It is the local guy that swaps out his own camshaft and intake manifold, the guy pulls his own car to the track and takes as much pride in what he owns as if it were John Force himself. Grudge racers are in it for one plain, simple reason… the love of the sport. Grudge racing is some of the best racing that you will find anywhere. Grudge racing for the most part is heads up, balls to the wall, wheel standing, outlaw style action that is more exciting to many than a pair of Top Fuel dragsters laying down 300 MPH quarter mile passes. Grudge racing is probably one of the only types of drag racing that still to this day, has never changed from it’s originality. Since the day the first drag race was held and the first pair of “grudge racers” paired up, not many things have changed. What you saw fifty years ago, that style of racing is still alive and strong today in grudge racing. Basically, grudge racing is when two drivers think that they can beat each other to the finish line in a no holds barred one shot match race. It is the local guy or gal that fans and spectators can relate to on a personal basis. Are grudge racers famous on a national level where dozens of people line up for autographs? No, but just go to any local grudge track and you will see just how famous and popular a grudge racer can be at a grass roots level, where the fans will flock every week in hopes of seeing just one good grudge race.

Unfortunately, Big Nasty broke a valve spring last Sunday while conducting burnouts in the driveway. I'm not sure that I can have "X" ready for tomorrow... (been working in Atlanta, Tx for the solid week) I'll try tonight to get it right but that would be rushing for sure.
But in any case, I'll be ready for Hallsville the following weekend for any of you "shad-dippers" that want to come fishing.

come down Hwy. 28 from Alex. to Leesville, get onto Hwy. 171 towards DeRidder.(just outside of Rosepine) take 190 by-pass to Hwy. 190 and go WEST.
At Bonweir- turn on Hwy. 363 to Kirbyville. In Kirbyville- take Hwy. 96 SOUTH. Stay on it til ya get to EVADALE.

Well boys and girl seems the b/s and back stabing has cost the club one of its first and best members, Seems Bryan and Amy C has had there fill and called it quits with this club, I have not been around much as of late so it would seem I have missed a few things. But I was given a small part of some of the crap going on behind the secnes. To bad some people forget those who helped bring them to the show. No need to call names or point fingers everybody involed nows who they are.I am just passing on a message for a very good and old friend of mine so save the cute remarks for those who want to hear them. A day at the Dyno -- Andy V., 13:15:46 03/30/03 Sun

Well, the Big Chief dyno session has come and gone. Even though we encountered a bearing problem, the 565 proved to be very strong and lived up to my expectations. On the very first pull with no timing. no vacuum pan pump, no collector extensions, and way lean jets, it made 954 HP and 740 ft tq. We made very minor changes and was making a strong charge towards the 1000 HP mark when the #6 rod bearing decided it did not like the previous crankshaft repair that had been made to it, prior to my purchasing the crank (on the 8th pull). Looking back (hind sight is 20/20) I wish I would have sent the crank to a reputable repair shop before installing it. The good news is that we learned plenty to put the Big Chief 565 "WAY" into the 1000 HP teritory without the aid of nitrous. Then the nitrous will add its fury to the fire (count on it)! Also, the damage was minimal enough that the engine can be easily repaired. Am I ever glad that I dynoed!!! If I had not dynoed, there most assuredly would have been a thrown rod that would have put plenty of oil on the rear tires at 140+ MPH, resulting in a nasty crash! I'll keep yall posted on progress. Good luck to all who race the Texans. From what I have personally seen at the Sealy 10.5 shootout, your gonna need it! Later.

Well, I have some bad news and some good news. The motor is repairable but I lost the crank. If I can get the parts in, we might make the Evadale race. I ordered the crank today and should get it by Friday. If all goes well, we will be there for the hanging. We do that in Texas ya know! I have to work 4-12's starting tomorrow but I am looking at being there as of now. T-Bone sure wants to go. Sorry for the misunderstanding Eddie. Have a nice day.

Eddie, A virus came through my computer 2 days ago. It was from bigjgarage but I called Joe Golden and he said don't open it because he didn't send anything to me. Anyways, we blew the smallblock up Sunday nite at HRP so I guess we are calling off Evadale. I e-mailed Jen and told her that I would evaluate the damage on Wednesday.
