Dr. Doppler met with Vile, Bit, Byte, and his 8 speciallists in his underground situation room. Thunder Ram was the first to speak. "Dr. Doppler, we have all worked very hard for you over the past month and a half. We had all been brought here under motivation of fear. Yet, we were given your assurance that if we were to cooperate, we would be treated fairly, and you would not move against us. We have all been asked to do impossible things over the past few days. We are all tired, and we want to return home. I am acting as a spokesman for my brothers in this matter. We are curious. What steps have been taken to secure our release?"
Doppler was taken back by the question.
"Thunder Ram. All of you, listen to me. I did what I had to do in order to bring you here. Please understand though, that I meant no harm to any of you...or your cities, or the people who you care for. Right now, we are under an extreme crisis. Up until this point you have all done remarkably well. That is why I want to reward you for your hard work.
As of now I will release you from our respective agrements. But, I will also offer you an incentive. You are all free to leave, but should you choose to leave, then you will waive the right to receive this new incentive."
"What incentive do you mean Doppler? You gonna blow up a children's hospital?", Blast Bull asked with sarcasm.
"I wouldn't dream of it! No my friends, I was talking about money!", Doppler informed them. As he said this, the murmurs of the 8 speciallists could be heard.
"I know this is all so unexpected. You are all probably curious as to my sudden change of heart. Let me assure you all that your presence is needed here. I will fully compensate you for your troubles. See here, I have a reserve account set up for just such an occasion."
"So what are we talking Doppler? Let's put a nice round figure on the table!", Metal Scorpion added.
"How does 640 billion credits sound?"
"What, each? Or is that all together?", Scorpion inquired.
"That is the current total of my reserve account. You are each entitled to your cut. It is all that I have to give you. Of course, if some of you choose to leave, then that makes more for everyone else!"
Doppler threw that last part in there to stir up jealousy.
He wanted to pit them against eachother.
"EIGHTY BILLION credits! Wow...that's more than my company made in 5 years!", Saber Wolf stated.
"Both of ours together!", Wave Tortise added.
"Well, what do you say? Are you in?", Doppler asked.
All of them looked at eachother, trying to see who would be crazy to turn down 80 billion in hard currency. It seemed that no one wanted to part with that much money. Ram spoke up again. "Agreed. We accept your offer. Now, what do you want us to do?"
Doppler thought for a minute, and turned to them, and said,
"Our enemy is in space. His name is Dr. Wily, and he is a very powerful enemy. I looked up some information on him. This doesn't make any sense, but he is supposed to be dead."
All of them, Bit and Byte included asked, "Dead?"
"Yes, I know. He died a hundred years ago. Or he was thought to have died. But, somehow, he's here, he's very much alive....and he's destroyed much of what we've worked very hard to accomplish.
So our task is simple. We must send an assault team to strike the moon.", Doppler answered.
"What about the base?", Bit asked.
"Don't worry. I've had our construction teams working feverishly for the past 36 hours since the attack. Our base is fortified. Even so, we cannot rule our another attack from the Pirate Castendo, or Wily. Also, we also need to factor in the Maverick Hunter's involvement in all of this. You speciallists will stay behind, as will Vile. Bit, and Byte will lead the attack on the moon base."
"But why only send them?", Razor Mantis asked.
"They aren't going alone. I will be sending 65 percent of our forces against Dr. Wily in space. The other 35 percent should be more than enough to keep the Hunters busy."
"But Sir, what happens if both the Hunters, AND Castendo or Wily attack?", Byte asked.
"Then we take out our ace!", Doppler answered with a smile. He then started to reach his hand for his beard. Vile stood up, and answered the question. "A direct hit from the Enigma particle cannon would wipe out the attackers on multiple fronts. We have nothing to fear from X!"
"Very good then, I'm going to give you all new battle stations. We go to condition Yellow. Prepare for attack on multiple fronts.", Doppler informed them, and then added, "Here's where the fun begins!" (to be continued)
