I actually think, just based on the comments of other people on these boards, that I probably could have handled season 9 eps better than the non-Mulder season 8 eps.
From what I've gathered, during most of season 8 they were trying to hint at UST between Doggett and Scully which: 1.) Made Scully look like a horrible, disloyal bimbo -- flirting with one man while pregnant with another man's baby (which we all know she's not!) and 2.) Made Doggett look like a weirdo who got turned on by a woman who was pregnant with another man's baby. But during season nine Doggett was having UST with Reyes. . .which makes more sense than him having it with Scully. . .but sure doesn't explain why Chris "my show isn't about romance" Carter felt the need to replace one USTing couple with another one.
