Subject: Shows with X-Fileish elements

While we can all agree that "The X-Files", with its combination of scariness, intelligent writing, conspiracy and sexiness, was unique in the annals of television, it seems that people are always using it as a yardstick to make comparisons with other shows.
According to CC himself, the show that was most similar to "The X-Files" was the 1970s horror/mystery show "The Night Stalker". I guess CC should know, but I watched "The Night Stalker" as a kid and, IMHO, it was only half the show XF was. . .it was scary, all right, but it didn't have the UST element that -- regardless of whether or not CC is willing to admit it -- was a big part of XF's appeal and success.
A couple of new shows (see the TV Watchers Room forum for more on this), "Push, Nevada" and "John Doe", have also been described as having X-Fileish overtones. A lot of people, over the years, have described the MSR as being similar in sizzle to the Maddie/Dave relationship on the 80s show "Moonlighting". (See the Shipperville forum for my take on why I disagree with that assessment.)
So. . .what shows -- new or old, well-known or shortlived -- do you think had some similarities to XF and why??
There are three that I think kinda/sorta had some of the same elements as XF but probably only one that anybody else has ever heard of:
1.) "Beauty and the Beast" (this is the one that people may have heard of). . .it aired for several years in the late 80s and Vincent (the "Beast') had the same kind of tortured, poetic soul that Mulder had. . .and the series had an ending that was similar to the bittersweet overtones of "The Truth".
2.) "Probe". . .nuff said. Nobody else has ever heard of it and I think Det's getting a little tired of me nattering on about it.
3.) "Palace Guard". . .it debuted a season or two before XF but only lasted for half a dozen or so eps. I *think* CC was one of the writers, which probably accounts for the similarities. It wasn't really "scary" -- more of a straightforward mystery -- but it had some of the same kind of wonky, confusing family dynamics as the Mulder/Spender families had on XF. . .instead of the hero desperately searching for a sister he'd once had and then lost, the early eps had the hero discovering that the teenage girl he'd rescued was the half-sister he'd never known existed. The hero (don't remember his name) also had an UST type relationship with his female boss.
