I think "My Dark Places" starts filming next month. They did have some problems getting funding for it and it was delayed -- apparently it's now an indie production, rather than a studio one -- but last I heard the project now has a green light.
I hope nobody hates me for saying this, but I really think the whole "X-Files" franchise is kaput. I've noticed they're no longer releasing "official" novels based on the show and none of the "big three" seems to have the slightest interest in making a second movie.
IMHO, they really shot themselves in the foot by continuing XF as a TV show beyond season seven. They should have ended it then, immediately begun filming the second movie, and released the second movie in the summer of 2001. If they'd done that, DD, GA and CC would probably now happily be filmining the third movie, for release in summer of 2004. Or if they absolutely *had* to continue it as a TV show beyond May of 2000, they should have done it as an "X-Files: the Next Generation" type thing. . .with Doggett and Reyes as the "TV XF agents" and Mulder and Scully as the "movie XF agents". . .with no crossovers.
