Curiosity for Season 9

Hello, all you Season 9 watchers. You know I hate spoilers and therefore this is a silly question (heck, I haven't even Season 8 yet!) but curiosity is getting the better of me for general feedback on S9. Can anyone give me an idea of how good/bad they feel S9 is, without resorting to plot revelation? I am afraid for The X Files without Mulder. Need I be so afraid?

In true BBC fashion, no sign of Season 8 on our public broadcasting terrestrial network here in the UK, but we have had the pleasure of repeats of Season 1 over the summer.

What's the verdict, then? Is it thumbs up or thumbs down? (If it's possible to say without giving the game away). Look at me, I want my cake and also to eat it!
