Bless you IG, are you out of your cotton-pickin' mind?! Doggett is nothing like Mulder except that they both seem to like sausage-like sandwiches and could probably both attend a baseball game together and maybe root for the same team.
While I would love variety in races/sex roles/gender-preferences in all my shows, I'm not sure it would have made a difference in the files. Doggett is a very different character than Mulder and unfortunately, I agree with whoever said he wasn't introduced well into the show and that Mulder wasn't given a proper send-off. (I think Det said this, actually.) Even so, while I love the interaction between Mulder and Scully, I think the other characters could have been developed so that we would still have a rich and interesting mix.
I don't just love Mulder and Scully. I have loved getting to know Skinner, the lone gunmen, all the bad and evil guys, Reyes, and Doggett. I loved the conspiracies, the paranormal, and the supernatural. To me -- and this truly has nothing to do with being noromo -- whether or not Scully and Mulder had a relationship has always been the least interesting portion of the show. The only reason I was ever interested in that part at all was to look for arguments that I could present against the relationship on this forum to tease all my beloved Shipper friends.
That's my opinion, for what it's worth. Sunday nights are not going to ever be the same for me with the files ending.
