Interesting suggestion, devlin. Kind of ties in with the suggestion about there mabye being some mysterious, unknown *person* that we've never met who's actually the third most important character on the show. In some ways, maybe we could almost say that Arthur Dales was the third most important character on the show, despite only being in a couple of eps, since he's the one who began the X-Files and discovering them is what drew Mulder off the "well travelled" career path to FBI success and led to Scully being assigned to work with him.
I can't speak for everyone, but when I talk about the MSR, I mean just that. . .the *relationship* between Mulder and Scully. You can substitute the word "interaction" if you prefer. The way they talked with each other, the gradual, growing trust they built up over the seasons, etc. While I was glad when they *finally* got romantically/sexually involved with each other, their relationship began years before their romance.
