Sorry to say but I don't think so. The people at Fox didn't see a strong performance from IWTB so why pay for another film that will bomb? X-Files is out of style, they were a cultural phenom in the mid-90s, that's a long time ago. Causal fans have moved on. Perhaps a revival will come along years from now but I'd say IWTB was their last chance to continue the original show.

As for loose threads, well there were plenty of those. It was a show that asked questions that there were no answers to. To answer everything would be disappointing because the mystery is what makes it fun. Lost was the same way, they kept it a mystery and you either loved that or hated it.

2012 as the date of an alien invasion or the world ending has now been over played. Since it will come and go soon, a film will date quickly. XF wasn't a battle aliens with huge FX scenes type of show so I can't see an invasion story happening.

As for William, I think Chris Carter and the writers are happy to forget him. They wrote themselves into a corner and came up with a lame exit for him. They don't want Mulder & Scully walking him through the park and dropping him at kindergarten, they have adventures to get to. William slows them down and makes them seem old & settled. I would question Mulder continuing his very dangerous quest when he has a child to care for at home.
