I think we might actually get a character we can like - a new person who may, as you say, be a fish out of water, but one who has to put all his old assumptions on hold, and learn to think in different ways. A bit like Scully had to, over the years. I have mentioned before that I believe Scully will seem like the main character, but only in so far as she roots us with Mulder, so we can't forget him at all. (and we all know what the thing that roots her to Mulder might be! no spoiler but...)
