Having shows about the story only is an old thing. Most shows these days have alot of character stuff such as ER and that law show I don't watch. Most shows have a character study each week. It is never just about the stories. What I first liked alot about the X Files is that when one of them was hurt or sick , the family would turn up. I can think of heaps of shows from the olden days [70s and 80s] where the main character was on his/her death bed and there was no family to be seen. Also with XF we have the initial involvement of the Mulder family in the central core of the show but we never saw enough on them. We had a bit of a run on the Scullys when Scully was sick or unpset about something and that is all. I liked how Mrs S left a message on Scully's answering machine just for no reason . It was nice to know that Scully had a life outside the X Files. I don't think there has to be a special indepth ep about any one character and their family happenings but the odd turnup of one or two members occasionally for no reason, just to know that they are around would add something to the show and to M and S. Keep them human and a bit more normal. Remind us that they are real people with lives outside work. That is one of the reasons I liked X Cops with them interacting with normal cops in a normal environment. I do hope to see the Scully family in S8. I think they really need to show up at least twice or if islandgirl gets her wish....three times :-).

I would also have liked to see more of the other characters. Another show about Skinner's wife would be good. If she still exists. What about learning something about Frohike and Langley? Maybe next season they might do something to expand the profiles of the other characters. It's their last chance.
