a second defining role that — while not nearly as well-known as Mulder — a lot of people identify him with: "Jake", the beautiful, tortured narrator and sometimes star of "Red Shoe Diaries". I've actually been on DD forums where close to half the women posting have never even seen "The X-Files"; their devotion is solely to "Jake".
I really think DD excels at creating complex characters that can't be contained to a single two-hour movie. (i.e. Mulder and Jake) I know TV isn't considered by most people in Hollywood to be as prestigious as movies, but I it's better suited to his talents.
