I am also a bit surprised at how actors can lay claim to their performances on a semi-permanent basis. They get a salary for the work they do and then (like the case of DD ands the syndication right) they also can lay claim to what happens to their performances after the fact. Imagine if a bank worker helped to set up a person's investment account and then could lay claim to that account when the investments made money? I am surprised that work is not just work, where actors are concerned. I wouldn't single out DD really. A lot of people in major US shows get paid this well. I think in America, the idea of 'actor as product' is more developed than elsewhere.
