I had a rather disturbing thought about next Season(spoilers for Season 8)

Well, I was thinking about the new Season of the X-Files today. And I suddenly had a seriously disturbing epiphany. I was wondering about how they might handle the NO MULDER thing next year and it hit me that there was a very simple way for CC to avoid the issue. All he needs to do is begin Season 9, 5 years in the future.

Five years won't cause that much of a physical change but many things could change in the X-Files universe. Scully could be working in another Department. JD and Reyes could be a seamless team. Little Sweeps William would be in Daycare and Mulder would be gone. No need to explain where he went even, maybe divorce, maybe death, maybe another abduction, or maybe a crazed Mulder abandonment with no further explanation.

Nobody would mention it to Scully because she would already have discussed it when it happened and they wouldn't want to stir up bad memories for her. There could be a photo of him on her bedside table or desk at home but that's all the acknowledgement we would get until they do the next movie.
