Subject: I agree with IG on the above points
In reply to: Islandgirl 's message, "The "Millennium" kiss" on 10:06:45 09/18/01 Tue

Thanks for the best wishes Det. They appear to be working as I feel better everyday even today when I have to work extra hard as everyone else is on vacation. Anyway, I totally agree with IG that the Millenium Kiss is the first public kiss and actually I kind of wonder about the "How was your Christmas?" line in Millenium too. Because that would mean that Mulder for the first time in 3 years WASN'T in contact with Scully at the holidays. That seems very odd to me, and even when it was said I thought "WHAT???" but later in the context of the episode I wondered if it was poor continuity with the writers OR if it was a coded "We are back at work and NOT involved" thing because it was SO much out of character for them to have had NO CONTACT during the holidays. It was that line and the scene on the stairs that made me go "HMMMM!" over the kiss especially in light of Scully's less than enthusiastic reaction to the kiss.

I mean compare her reaction there to the flashback reaction she had when he agreed to father the baby. We have seen Scully happy(rarely)and she tends to get that glowing grin with the tearfilled eyes. We see that in Requiem as she lays in Mulder's arms and in SUZ when she says she's happy and in the few times when she has rushed into his arms. The Millenium reaction was very similar to the one in All Things and if we feel that AT was NOT the first time for the NP then we should look at the MK suspiciously as well. Actually we could make a good case for an unseen FIRST KISS moment at a number of places early on, maybe before FTF even. Because I think the FTF kiss was on a different level...Mulder was trying to influence Scully through her feelings for him in that scene.

In FTF, he was essentially saying "Stay and fight on in this crusade because you love me and I don't think I can go on without you" not just because it's the RIGHT thing to do or because you believe in my cause. I would actually put the first M/S kiss exactly where DD put it in the Hospital when she had cancer. Not as a sexual kiss but as a mark of loving tenderness. I don't think either M or S would have counted that as a romantic response but I think it would have open the door for her to ask him to father her child. However, if we are being literal then we have to put it after Rain King and the most natural place for it is post Milagro. The emotion in DD's face is very raw when he takes her in his arms. And they cut that scene very short with no agency follow up. Plus, Milagro is without a doubt all about the MSR.

And I REALLY think that line from M in the Season Finale about DF "It's okay" was to let Scully know that nothing was going on WITH Diana. I know that if I called my main squeeze and knew he was home in bed and his EX answered the phone it would be quite natural for him to offer me a word or two of reassurance. This is underscored by Scully's reaction since she KNEW that DF was with Mulder and yet she was CERTAIN that he wouldn't have called DF because "nobody else would believe him". Scully knew that Mulder called DF only because she was in town and would help him.

who hopes this makes sense as I am confusing myself...of course, it is making me want to rewatch some of these episodes.
