Go on and close the curtains

"Good." Relief washed through him when she agreed - if she had declined, that likely would have been pretty much the end of things, but her agreeing gave him another fraction of hope. Then, much like his mouth tended to blurt things out while he was still thinking them through, his hand reached out to smooth her hair and then fisted into the wild, blonde mass of curls at the back of her head before dropping back to his side as he responded. For all of his occasionally goofy, less-than-smooth tendencies, he was still a man in his late twenties with a mature confidence that kids even just seven or eight years younger than him lacked. "Yeah, we were good friends, Keila, but we were great lovers." She was beautiful, and fun, and fresh, and intelligent and really the type of girl that any guy would feel lucky to have - yet he had walked away from her for reasons that had nothing to do with how amazing she was. He did feel a little bad for being so blatantly honest with her, but he was like that - eventually got sick of beating around the bush. They were together three years - that was a long time to pretend never existed. He met her gaze squarely and then grabbed his own things - a messenger bag and a hoodie, both of which really only contributed to his fitting in more as a student than a professor, but he would dress up and look the part when it was time to get down to business...
