Subject: Now that I'm not working. . .

For probably the first time in my entire life, I think I'm actually watching the amount of TV per week that surveys always assures us the "average" American watches. Although, since most of the primetime shows I'm watching are wrapping up their seasons this week, my TV viewing will probably taper off soon.

Honestly, I never have understood how the "average" American was supposed to watch something like 35 hours of TV per week. Yes, I've been doing that for the past couple of months, because for the first time since the summer I was 16 I haven't been either working, going to school or taking care of one or more children under the age of five (sometimes more than one of those at once). But the typical working mother, or college student with a part-time job, couldn't possibly be watching anywhere near that amount of TV. And if 35 hours per week is the "average" than there would have to be people out there watching 45-50 hours of TV to balance out the people who (like me up to a couple of months ago) are only watching 10-15 hours of TV per week.
