Subject: TV season wrap up

Well, I didn't watch much new TV.

Agents of SHIELD: this disappointed at first. Kinda bland character & plot wise. A few on going mysteries but not enough to make it must see. I skipped a few by mid-season. But then late in the season, the show tied into the Captain America movie (you didn't HAVE to see it to understand but it helped I suppose). Suddenly, the team had a traitor on board, Bill Paxton came in and chewed scenery, Patton Oswalt cam in as comedy relief, nobody trusted anybody else and SHIELD was falling apart from the enemy within. The last 6 or 7 episodes were all very good and climaxed with the usual mysteries for next season.

Some say Clark Gregg can't hold the center stage, a better supporting character than a lead. I enjoy his middle aged but still energetic, square but well rounded. Ward got interesting for sure, May remains the focused one who doesn't need to talk much, Skye is an everywoman but also has a mystery past, the 2 Brits need a bit more to them. I'm hoping season 2 improves.

Arrow: This show has better action and pacing than AOS but way too much melodrama. Everyone's young and hot just like all the other CW shows. Most of the parents look like they had their kids at age 10!! I enjoy all the referencing to DC comics characters, plots and ideas. They have covered quite a few by now. This season's big bad was bad ass but yet again it's a destroy the city climax. The flashbacks to Oliver's missing years can be dull and take away from the current story. Laurel was becoming a useless, annoying character but now that she's on the team, she might finally have something to do.

The acting can be soapy & hoakey. But for street level super heroing, it's got the goods.

Almost Human: watched 2 eps and got bored. Canacelled.

24: watched the opener, same stuff, different day. Makes sense for Chloe to be with Wikileaks but I love how Jack puts them down on behalf of Fox. This show has the same problems as before, can't believe this much can happen in so short a time frame, silly subplots to pad out the time, Jack is the only man in the world who can save us.

Cosmos: I loved Carl Sagan's original show & the update is just as good. Seems to be directly addressing those who question science. Good, about time science fought back. Tyson tells us how they know the things they know like evolution or the age of the universe. The FX are cinema worth & help explain complex ideas to everyday folks.

Looks like super heroes & related shows are here to stay. Next season there will be Agent Carter (spun off from Captain America, a prequel of AOS), Gotham (the city before Batman), The Flash (spun out from Arrow), Constantine (a supernatural detective of sorts-hopefully better than the Keanu Reeves film).

What you guys been watching??
