I have a couple of questions about the pilot ep:

1. What is Sam Hodiak's (the DD character's) son's name and what exactly is the deal with him?? They seemed to be saying both that the character was AWOL and that Sam's ex-wife (or separated wife; I think he said they were still legally married) had run some sort of scam to get him sent back home. As a practical matter, wouldn't it have been pretty darn difficult to get back from Vietnam "unofficially"? I assume there weren't commercial flights going in and out of the country during the Vietnam War?

2. Is Sam supposed to be a World War II vet? I don't think they specifically said he was, but most men old enough to have sons in the Vietnam War had been the right age to serve in World War II themselves.
