Subject: Long and Staveski

Can anyone confirm this? I was told at the game today that Long and Staveskie are both completely healthy (as we all believed) and have both informed the school they will be transferring at the end of the year and don't want to use up a year of eligibility. If this is true and they are allowed to stay with the team, travel with the team, and get technical fouls from the bench (Long), that is beyond embarrassing not only for the team but the fans and the entire school! Someone please tell me this is just a bad rumor. Oh and did Joe Jones quit? Is he still enrolled in school and getting the free education that my kid never got?

I cannot confirm or refute - because no one is talking - but I have heard a similar story from multiple people but no one from the athletic department. I was not there today but I know there was quite a buzz about it at the game Friday. I'm not a doctor but I do know that continuing to simply say that both are week to week when it's known both have practiced and it's pretty apparent neither looks injured as they run around during pre-game, is not a good look and certainly makes fans and boosters who spend their money to watch this sideshow feel deceived to say the least.

I'm only guessing but it appears Jones just didn't return to school for the second semester. He was at every game both home and away prior to that. He already earned his degree from Georgia St.

Kick them off the team. I can't stand looking at them, knowing what they are doing.Reggie sucks as a coach, but this team would have been so good,if those 2 weren't so selfish.

Joe Jones career is done. Tahj & Long are done as well. Connect to dots. These injuries don’t take this long to heal. They’re listening to their AAU coaches or those who have an influence on their decision making. Welcome to the new world of athletics. It sucks for us loyal fans. They’re good kids but some transparency from the coaches / school would have been appreciated. Go Griffs!

I don't care if they're good kids or not. That's bullshit. Ship their asses out then and at least the number of technical fouls will be reduced. With me or against me. There's no in between. People are so freakin soft. Ridiculous!

You can only receive a medical hardship redshirt if your injury is season-ending. If you are cleared to return to play before the end of the season, you are not eligible to receive a medical hardship and this year would count toward their four years of eligibility.

And when they are classified as week to week but never get "healthy enough" to return, it is season ending.

I passed Staveski during pre game a while ago and asked him how are you feeling? He gave me the dirty look and ignored me. It's a disgrace and for the donors like us we should give our money to the General Fund next year. Or stop giving to the college. I'd rather give my money ($1000 yr) to the food bank or spca next year.

So, penalize the school for a decision made by an individual that hurts the school?

Curious logic.

Punish the school? You continue to make no sense. He said give to the general fund. Apparently you like to give money to things that do absolutely nothing for you. Nothing. Why would anyone in their right mind continue to give money to a program that only loses, is arrogant (still trying to figure that one out) doesn't communicate with anyone, on and on and on and on.

I need someone to explain this mystical world where Canisius has all this prestige and resources, without people giving Canisius significantly more money.

There is nothing to explain. They've already blown it. I have a better question. Do you honestly believe that people should be expected to blindly give money and have faith that things will get better for a program that has had 6 winning seasons this century? - due almost entirely to the Baron family. And even during those years and despite his gruffness, Jim Baron would begin every single pre and post-game interview by saying how floored he was at the lack of fan support. Imagine his response to what is being allowed to happen now.

His EXACT words:

"I'd rather give my money ($1000 yr) to the food bank or spca next year."

So if he does exactly what he says he'd like to do, that's not punishing the school for the actions of an individual?

You really are a moron. His EXACT words were "donors like us we should give our money to the General Fund next year". And so what if people did punish this cluster school who allows an "individual" to sit on the bench and in some weird way be a part of anything after he quit on his team? Dumb ass!

When you give less money directly to Athletics, what do you expect to happen?

Don’t let our frustration boil over on each other. We are all frustrated. I’m actually going to send the AD some names for a search. The department might not be thinking that but they should. Siena is ready to run their coach on a rail. Sending over some names also sends the message that enough is enough. Go Griffs!

Again, his EXACT quote:

"It's a disgrace and for the donors like us we should give our money to the General Fund next year. Or stop giving to the college. I'd rather give my money ($1000 yr) to the food bank or spca next year."

"Giving to the general fund" was one of three options. The other two involved not giving at all, which punishes the school for the actions of an individual.

I realize reading comprehension is difficult for many old men like yourself. The mind wanders and has a hard time focusing.

But old man or not, the first rule of life is, "Don't be a dick." It's not that hard an approach to live up to, but you fail miserably in almost every interaction with anyone on this board.

And again, in your scenario, how does giving money to the "general fund" or SPCA, etc., help improve anything in Athletics? I understand and share frustration, but I don't understand how less resources can translate into more success.

Who are you going to hire for the same or less money? Who can you keep for the same or less money?

My problem isn't comprehension. It's this advanced version of math here.

If you think giving 1k entitles you to walk up to an injured player and have him tell you what’s wrong with him, then you’re out to lunch. I know Canisius doesn’t have a lot of donor support, but why would anyone think they’re entitled to that inside info.

Tahj is ready to sign with an agent and play in the G League or overseas. He doesn't want to get hurt again before he does.

Hard to accept but it does sound plausible that is what is happening. Since players are now allowed multiple free transfers can't imagine they will be our only defectors. Whole program is so up in the air where it lands next year is beyond any logical analysis!

I also got no response from Tajh when I asked him about returning. I know both he and X were medically cleared to play in early December. And I was told then by a high level person that neither were itching to play. Why Reggie has appeased them if they are bailing
is hard to fathom

And why and when did they make this decision? Both were ready to play at the start and in the preseason games in Canada. Did Reggie cause them to quit? This is the worst news in a terrible season.

If there's any hope they would play, why would Coach Witherspoon NOT want them in the lineup, in a contract year?

A contract year lol? Are you kidding? If he gets anything after losing in the MAAC tournament, this place is more of a joke than anyone even believes they are now. He may want them in the lineup so he has a shot at having 301 wins but they don't care obviously. So he knows he's out and they know he's out. It's like somebody who has their house foreclosed on and trashes it on the way out!

The extension Bill Maher (& the school) gave this lousy coach was an embarrassment 3 yrs ago (or whenever it was) and these are the results. Any half ass coach should be able to stay out of the gutter with Frank, Dinkins, Siem & Gadsen on their squad. It's not a bad team. It's a team with a crummy coach. Shame on the powers to be. President Steve, please shake up this program!
