Where do we get these kids? They have no school spirit or pride. Sad state of affairs. Plenty of blame to spread around. Students leaders supporting C Block, lack of athletic marketing & winning by our teams.

Winning cures everything.

Yes, winning is the most important ingredient, but if you read that article that I posted to the end you saw how the coach was engaged with the student body...maybe that "sixth man" sitting behind the basket helps drive some wins!!

The school spent thousands to reconfigure the hoops. Students don't want to sit there.

[> [> Athletics needs to be part of the strategic plan & culture of the school -- KP, Thu, February 15 2024, 7:03:35

Bona does the best job of making athletics part of their strategic plan & culture.

Niagara & Canisius need to step it up in this area. They had it but it’s been ignored for way too long.

Athletics is the biggest way to build your brand.

Go Griffs!

If I'm not mistaken (and I'm not) , that is a significant part of President Steve's plans for CU.

Athletics scans student ID's for attendance. The average student attendance is 50. Highest was 300 for the Manhattan game. The lowest it's been is 12 (Fairfield game). The problem is that you don't see them sitting in the student section.

Students aren't as excited about school spirit or games, but that's always been a challenge.

[> Re: Students? -- Current Canisius Student (Angry), Thu, February 15 2024, 10:26:20

As a current Canisius student, I want to see our teams dominate. I show up to every game that I can make, but the passion doesn't seem to be there, especially from the Men's team. Students for some reason don't want to watch a full game which makes no sense to me. Yes, winning would cure everything, but why don't we make big changes in order to win? Canisius hasn't made any changes to its programs really and they are just staying the same. I want to see this program become a true contender in the MAAC, but nothing is going to happen if we stay on the same trajectory.

Canisius is a commuter university for the most part compared to St Bonaventure there is that. That is the difference I dorm my freshman year then I commuted because I lived locally and saved me money doing that. The bottom
line when I stayed on campus freshman year none of my dorm floor that went to Griffs basketball games went to the KAC games only the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium Saturday night games because you could drink beer back then in the old AUD because it was off campus. Canisius University KAC is a dry facility no one is going to do that in a city like Buffalo that is a beer town.

UB Bulls learned that lesson the hard way until finally they realized they had to change before they drove all there Western New York fans away. Sell beer that would increase Griffs basketball attendance. Especially after watching Reggie Witherspoon coach you need a beer. Canisius University is at a point now where you either sell beer or you fold up the Division 1 basketball program because there is nothing big league about it anymore today. Compared to when I was a Griffs team manager. But the sad thing is Canisius University is going to do what they do continuing to run the Griffs basketball program into the ground to the point there will be no Division I basketball anymore. I don’t think Canisius University is Division I in the 2030’s? The sad thing is the University leadership doesn’t care until finally when it affects there own jobs and there is no more Canisius University? If Canisius University stays on this trend to refuse to change I could actually see Canisius University closing due to low enrollment and cost to attend Canisius University. Canisius University you get a lot less than a SUNY school. All my family went to private Catholic schools for college today none of my nephews chose debt with a expensive Catholic school to get less. All my nephews locally went to UB. Buffalo Super Fan today Canisius University no way I would go to UB because you get more and cost less at a SUNY university in my opinion. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo
