I don't think dropping football has had anything to do with declining enrollment. Would think most universities/colleges in the area have seen a decline in enrollment.

Football was already gone by the time I arrived as a freshman.

Canisius doesn't have the infrastructure to field a viable FCS team. If the NCAA had a D3 option for D1 schools, Canisius and others would jump all over it.

Exactly. This rule needs to change. DII and DIII schools can sponsor one D1 sport (Union in hockey, Johns Hopkins in lacrosse, etc.) DI schools should be able to sponsor DIII football.

The I-AA Pioneer League is not an option, travel costs are out of this world.

We could play a regional DIII schedule against Buff State, Rochester, Alfred, Cortland, St. John Fisher, Hamilton, Alfred State, Brockport, Ithaca, Union ... and travel to every game by bus, and add 100 tuition/fees-paying students to our enrollment.

I would love to see the return of D3 football. Games against Buff State, Alfred, St. John fisher, Brockport, and others could make a nice conference, and result in the addition of about 8o students. I always enjoyed the get togethers after the games. go Griffs!!!

The travel costs make the Pioneer League impossible. We would be flying to every opponent except Dayton and Marist.

By the way, there would need to be new locker rooms, updates to Demske, hire a staff, etc. It would be a nightmare to add football unless someone is cutting a multi-million check.

we shouldn't have dropped football in the 2000s, we were too arrogate to realize we needed the revenue.

120 football players x 31k, 3.7 million could easily pay for a few things, living on campus, getting a meal plan, etc.

Drake's stadium seats 14,557 people. Bucknell 13,100. Dayton 11,000. Not even close to possible at Demske. Where in the world would they play???

Drake spent 696,839 on football while making money on it. Canisius would be making close to 2 million on pioneer football.

It would have to be a multi million check every year.

What is this list? Duquesne, Georgetown, RMU, and Mercyhurst are not in the Pioneer League. Davidson just built a brand new 5,000 seat stadium (below). Where would that go in and/or around the Canisius campus?

Ultimately, we shouldn't have discontinued the football program. We’ve lost numerous donors and potential supporters as a result.

We don’t need a large stadium for FCS Pioneer League football, and our size is comparable to many other FCS programs I've already mentioned.

Additionally, with the new roster limits in hockey, that program is likely to become another financial strain on the department.

You don't need a large stadium for the Pioneer League? So the Pioneer League would take on a brand new program with zero infrastructure and potential seating capacity of maybe 2000 people below their smallest stadium? Come on man. This discussion has gotten stupid. The basketball season is 18 days away and we're talking about this?
