Just listen to some of the commentary on the top seeded teams. Most of their players are transfers . Between the desire to make NIL money, the opportunity to win, and get national exposure, why would good mid major players turn that down ? As much as I hate the system, I cannot blame them whatsoever. Go for it if you can.

I don't blame the players for taking the opportunity to earn money. For me personally - and I think for many Canisius and mid major fans - it is making me less and less interested. I derive little pleasure in watching the 10th place SEC team play the 7th place Big 10 team.

I have been saying exactly that for years. The more Mississippi and Iowa State's, the less I care.When Drake and St.Mary's get booted,I'm out unless Gonzaga makes a long run. Something about those Jesuits.

How about the NCAA puts the POWER 5 in their own tourney MARCH $$$. Then for old times sake do March Madness for the remaining D1 schools?

If you're going to do that, you might as well just go the football route and create a FBS/FCS. Then we could aspire to be the North Dakota St. of college basketball and no one would care about it until the limited audience that watches the FCS championship in Frisco,Texas.

The reality is that we must root for our players, particularly our fresh, to be good but not so good as to deserve money in the portal.. there are a few MAAC teams with healthy nil money but we are not one of them and likely never will. So we can only play one year at a time hoping that our coaches find kids who are overlooked by the bigs so we can compete in our conference. Siena gave good money in the last two years to some transfers who were mediocre, so some money goes to waste if the coaches pick the wrong kids.

That's what I can't stomach and what is ruining mid major basketball. We need to root for mediocrity.

What we knew or hoped for in college basketball is all gone and the impact of mid-major (or lower) programs will continue to be diminished by the power conferences until there is no choice but to reorganize into some lesser format. It should have already happened but there are so many divergent programs now in division 1 that agreement is almost impossible to bring about. President Steve touched on this in his excellent article on March Madness in last weekends Buffalo News. Change will have to come eventually and presumably schools will decide where they want to compete however there is also a growing likelihood that the power schools will set the rules to include only whom they want included.

Until he made the ridiculous suggestion that the winner of the 64 team NCAA tournament would play the winner of the 32 team NIT for a "winner take all" like the UEFA Super Cup. The what? That makes zero sense.
