At one time, up until the late 50's, they were common in the upper Sea of Cortez.Commercial fishing hit them very hard, and demands on irrigation water in the Colorado River has reduced that once mighty torrent to a trickle most years. Flowing river water is required for spawning. Some of my fondest memories are as a teen age kid with my dad hauling these 60 and 80# Croakers into the boat. Tortuava are only distantly related to your Speck. Sea Trout. Included in the Croaker family ( Sciaenidae ) are also the Atlantic Weakfish, The various species of west coast Corvina, and the fish sold as Chilean Sea bass, as well as the Pacific White Sea Bass. > ? > [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
