The photo and the story which follows were shared with me today by one of my facebook friends, Kelly Twowolves ...
- the story touched my heart, and I thought I'd share with you too if that's ok? ...
- in the photo ...
Meredith and her dog -"Abbey"
"Please read this to the end my friend ...
"This is one of the kindest things you may ever see ..."
"It is not known who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the 'dead letter' office of the U.S. Postal Service..."
"Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words ..."
"Dear God ..."
"Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick ..."
"I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her."
- "Love, Meredith"
"We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought he had."
"Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies..' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note ..."
"Dear Meredith ..."
"Abbey arrived safely in heaven ..."
"Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away ..."
"Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by ..."
"Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have, I picked her especially for you ..."
"I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much ..."
"By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love."
- "God"

- the following song (even though I would imagine it to be most often associated with marriage ceremonies) ...
- this song came to my mind as I read Meredith's letter re: "Abbey", and the kind response given to her in love
p.s.
- I truly will do my best to "hush" for a while
- but, thanks for listening
- with love from, BC

You're welcome!
I kinda think the three of them have met by now, and are enjoying each other's company immensely!
And, I'm glad that Betty and Blue have found such a wonderful friend in you. No doubt they're enjoying their new home!
But somehow- at least to me - skunks and CA just don't seem to go together!
It's easier to imagine "Pepe Le Pew's" "cousins" runnin' 'round the hills of TN than near the beaches of the central coast of CA?! :)
- but, I'll take Betty and Blue's "word" for it 'cause it sounds like they've given "substantial evidence" as to "pews" being in and around your vicinity! :)
The past week or so has been "interesting" 'round here ...
- to put it mildly.
Around 3 a.m. last Saturday, we had someone attempt to break into our home.
I won't go into all the details except to say that I'm thankful for my daughter's keen sense of hearing, my son and "adopted" son's quick reaction time, the Lord's protection, campus security, and local police!
We already have two cats who have "adopted" our family ...
"Blitzen Von Garfield Trapper" and "Rocky Rufus Houdini Hawkeye"! :)
"Trapper" and "Hawkeye" for short! :)
I've been thinking about asking our landlord - who originallly said "no pets allowed" - if he would make just one more allowance for security reasons.
I'd like to adopt a VERY LARGE German Shepherd! :)
My daughter said we should name him "Radar"! :)
I hope you have a great weekend Stewart!

lol...........now thats funny. You have reminded me of something that happened a couple of weeks ago. I live in a rural area and Im thinking it must be mating season for skunks 'cause right now they are every where. So we are coming home late one night and the car in front of me hit a skunk. Dude.........you talk about stink, my son was in the front beside of me and we both thought we were going to be sick. Ive never smelled it so strong. Obviously he sprayed my car when he was hit. Oh it was the sickest smell. I thought it would go away but the next morning I smelled it before I got to the car. So I took it to car wash and it still smelled. Thankfully though we are skunk free for now. I had to tell that after the comment about your dogs Stewart.
I read the full story on Snopes.com and it made me tear up, BC! I don't do well at all with pets dying. We had two pets in our family die last year - my beloved tuxedo kitty Cosette and my parent's dog Keesha. It was really tough, especially since I'm so far away and I didn't get to say goodbye.
I'm so glad there are kind people who would take the time to bring closure, comfort and peace to little kids like Meredith during a very sad time.
"Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands."

I think I decided that our little boy needs a big, sweet, clumsy doggie to pal around with, but the husby wants a little terrier that he can call General Cornwallis. haha
