Well bc i was a dj for a time in another life. I produced a series of shows for my college radio station and then at the peak of disco ran a mobile disco with one of my college friends. We then got a show on a local radio station 2BSMGLF. Playing disco of course. However I think our biggest claim to fame was being the first to break Dire Straits Sultans of Swing. Of course the disco was huge and it meant a lot of lugging gear in and out of venues, not to mention actual crates of albums. The speakers were huge Klipsch reverse throwing boxes that each required a reflecting panel behind them made of 1" plywood. The horns were metal and about three feet across. We used to call it the "beast" among other things. The whole thing fit neatly into a VW Combi Van which we drove from gig to gig. At the time there was nothing better than cranking that thing up in a hall and fighting one another song for song to see who could keep the dance floor filled. It got so bad we used to hide our favourite records from one another. It was just a great time and we "WERE' the Sultans of Swing, at least in our imaginatgions BC you should see if you can get some DJ training and get an hour on college or public access radio .You'll have a blast love on ya Stewart

so, I just finished "packin' my bags" for "vacation" ...
- stopped in here ..
- read your message ...
- and, had to smile! :)
I wish I would have known you in this "other (DJ) life" of yours!
Disco?! :)
- somehow it's a little difficult for me to envision you wearin' a silk shirt and polyester slacks though ?! :)
http://youtu.be/I_izvAbhExY

but, the voice?! ;)
yep, a "DJ" no doubt!
you would definitely have had a captive audience!
- at least amongst the ladies!!!
http://youtu.be/XBw25CrUS-o

my voice?
- well ...
- vocal training would definitely be required!
- and, I wouldn't want to "fly solo" on my first broadcast
so, ....
- you wouldn't consider returning to the airwaves as one-half of a DJ "tag team" would ya?! ;)

MTSU actually has a radio station ...
- their music currently borders between classical and jazz!
- but, surely there's a "market" out there somewheres for the "oldies" ?! :)

here's an "oldies moment" ...
- for one of the original "sultan's of swing"! :)

I hope you have a great weekend!
- from, "dragon moon" bc :)!

I haven't listened to them in years--I've heard some newer stuff by Mark Knopfler which is always good...I love him.

My favorite song by them was Brothers In Arms, do you remember it??? Back in the day I played Dungeons and Dragons (I am a closet geek) and this was sort of a theme song for that. I have got to go You Tube it now.

BTW BC...I love all the clips and things you post, they are helping to while away the time here---it is raining again, yuck.

[> [> re: VW vans -- bc, 05:40:20 03/05/11 Sat

when my Dad remarried, he was also then blessed with more than a "double portion" in kids ...
so, he decided it would be a good idea to purchase a VW van!
I can still remember those summer vacations ...
- taken with my Dad, step-Mom, older brother, step-brother, step-sister, and our "collective" younger brother
- traveling from my Dad's home in Asheville, NC all the way to my Grandpa's in Scottsboro, AL in the "turquoise" VW Van! :)

- thought you might enjoy this vid Stewart?! :)
