Subject: This is a dumb thing to argue about
In reply to: FawnDoo 's message, "Superpower(s)" on 09:44:04 03/24/03 Mon

It all depends on how you are looking at the word, it's as simple as that. Yes, you can say there are other superpowers by certain definitions (ie "an extremely powerful nation; specifically : one of a very few dominant states in an era when the world is divided politically into these states and their satellites b : an international governing body able to enforce its will upon the most powerful states" -Websters). Then again, that same definition depends on your view of "Extremely powerful nation"...which we all seem to disagree upon (I'm of the thought that it's a nation with military, economic, and political influence that extends outside it's own region...so that would limit Superpower status to the U.S. at the current moment...but like 'Doo said, that can change fast if history is any indicator). The point is...we're argueing about a subjective statement, which is useless.
