There was nothing the soldiers could do but watch in horror as the thermonuclear device flew in the air. Their armour was frozen in place...the black fluid had hardened to a impenetrable shell...but their optics still worked.

A single thought occupied their minds.

The innocent by the crates.

The figure in black armour was already veering off course and spraying the doctor...the soldiers were helpless believing that the fiend had decided to kill the only innocent before finishing them off at it's leisure. If they had tear-ducts the soldiers would have wept. As it was they were all yelling out in unison...all this happened in less than a second.

The figure in black swung out his other arm and black fluid began to spray out towards the falling device, hardening in the air.

As the device fell to the ground it exploded. Atoms shot out and collided with atoms splitting at a millionth of a second causing a chemical reaction that in real world equated to several megatons of heat and power in an enclosed space. The power forced outward but the heat and radiation were stopped by the all encasing shell already around the thermonuclear device.

The soldiers noted what the black oil did not stop when their systems registered shut down...the Electro-Magnetic Pulse expanded outwards to be handled by the power of Starbase Rugby...
