Subject: VB6 v VB.net, seconds out, round two..........
In reply to: Richie 's message, "VB.Net" on 14:29:13 08/30/02 Fri

Hi all

Just to let you know, I spoke to TLL today and as far as they know the VB6 course is still being offered - the woman I spoke to is going to ask some more people who will be in on Monday, but she was quite certain that the course is still being offered. I am still receiving enrolments for it, the most recent ones being on the 27th of this month. The course is still legitimate - true, as Richard points out, VB.net operates on a different coding framework, but the VB6 platform will be here for a long time to come, and the transition from VB6 to VB.net will be a lot easier than learning VB.net from scratch.

If you intend to use VB.net in your work then yes, you will have to learn the new framework - however, the computing industry is not going to abandon VB6 and its earlier versions overnight, I can assure you all of that - the skills you are learning will be in demand for some time to come yet. I merely want to assure you all that your time is not being wasted, and the course you are on has not been rendered useless at a stroke with the advent of the next generation of the VB development environment.

Richard, I do not doubt your word about the leaflet, and I would appreciate a look at it, but as far as I am aware (and this is coming from TLL) the course is still being offered - if I hear anything to the contrary I will of course put it up here. I hope this has reassured those of you reading these posts who may have been concerned that the course you were on was no longer relevant. Trust me, it is relevant, useful and will stand you in good stead.

Regards

Douglas
