PLEASE READ THE INTRO. If ya don't, I ain't lettin' ya play.

Welcome, I'm Kit, your board administrator and supreme dictator! Just kidding. This is an anything-goes board, from furries to demons to dragons to humans. No fixed timeline or anything. But to make sure things run smoothly, there's gotta be a few rules. Read them, or you will suffer. Greatly.

Fairly pleased that she had managed to slip into the inn without everyone staring blatantly at the newcomer, Teltoli sat down at a table that was in the midst of what she usually hung around - the shadows.

The panther allowed herself a small smile as she watched what she assumed were the regulars of the inn. Grey-blue eyes wandered about the room like a drunken butterfly - never remaining on one thing too long.

It wasn't to be said that Teltoli Bazhira was a wallflower - it was just that she liked to keep her distance until she was sure nobody would stare. Not that the lithe panther had much to cause a fuss about - except, it seemed, for the rather large, silver-white feathered wings that at the moment were tucked neatly against her back. If not for her wings, the rest of her - panther-form with the to be expected black fur, grey-blue eyes, long black hair with the darkest of red streaks, loose black pants and black top with flared sleeves - would have been fairly normal.

The rumbling of her stomach alerted her to the fact that she hadn't eaten for several days - as she tended to travel light - tearing her away from the examination of the crowd. Frowning slightly, she took another look around at the beings in the inn - and deemed it safe. She walked up to the bar - taking measures not to look anyone in the eye - and ordered a drink.

"No, nothing alcholic... you do have non-alcholic drinks, don't you? Oh, good. Well - just a fruit juice, or something, then. Can't stand alcohol"

She leaned on the bar slightly, one paw absentmindedly rubbing a silver swirled tattoo that wound itself round her left wrist, waiting for her drink.

Kaligo smiles wryly. "You walked in by accident, did you?" He chuckles. "Well, I suppose most people do. I'm sure you can find your way out again, if you're patient."

Kitsuki remains balefully silent, still eyeing the miniature dragon suspiciously.

"We call it Gladsheim," says a friendly voice to Shayndel's left.

There is a young woman standing on a porch nearby, her arms full of bags of groceries. She looks friendly and honest, with a fair complexion and long, impossibly red hair tied back in a practical braid that hangs down just past the small of her back. Her eyes too, are red, a crimson shade much like her hair. But besides these anomalies, she seems normal and harmless.

"This here's the general store," she goes on. "If it's the inn you be wanting, that's down farther." She makes a vague gesture in its direction with a nod of her head. "The stables and the tavern are next to it. They've got a good working relationship." She chuckles, as if at some private joke.

The woman seated aboard the bay mare glances towards the man who had paused in front of her. With an inquiring frown on her richly tanned face, she quickly takes in his appearance. She calculates his looks and stature also noticing that he doesn�t appear to have a weapon upon him. Nevertheless, the woman decides to be cautious. She has been caught before. All this takes place within a blink of the eye, so fast, that most people don�t realize that they�ve been categorized and filed away.

"I�m just passing through," she states dismissing the realization that she�s new in town, �Directions to the stables and the local inn and tavern would be helpful.

The bay mare begins to fidget. She doesn�t want to stand still any longer and is determined to make her rider realize that. A leg stomps down, and the mare appears to stare off into space. The breeze is still taunting her with the notion of a run. The idea of a warm stall and feed has yet to take root in her mind.

The woman slowly smiles and pats her horse to try and calm her down. She is tired and wants to spend the night in a real bed with maybe a warm bath. There�s no need to press on when they had finally found a town complete with stables and inn.

Then she reaches up to rub a scar that stretches just above her left eye. The woman frowns in annoyance, but seems to dismiss whatever was bothering her.

"Where exactly am I anyway?" she asks hesitantly.

The main street of Gladsheim isn't particularly busy. It's usually empty (if not dusted with a few trapped, unaccustomed souls broken and drifting like specters) unless somebody (or thing) decides to be particularly cruel and dump a small handful of the denizens of somewhere else into it. A few of the old-timers will tell you of the summer a few handfuls of years back, when several creatures with spindle-legs ran through the town for a month, snapping at everything with mouths that more than anything resembled bear-traps nested like Russian dolls.

"Y'know, Agnes, back when Junie Fell had her first liddle 'un."
"Ooooh, yes." The meditative creaking might be wooden chair-rockers, or the joints in the planks of the porch, or the joints in Agnes' legs. "An' Bobby."
(Robert Fell has reached his thirty-ninth year in Gladsheim, and with Junie has raised no less than five children. But to Agnes and her kind, he will always be little Bobby Fell, who caught bullfrogs as big as his head in the creek behind Eastman's butcher shop.)
"Bobby sure was worked up over it."
"Jes' married and jumpy like a jackrabbit. Ooh, yes, went out and shot one of the things single handed. Old Eastman took the meat, near died eatin' it."
"Lost a damn good milk good cow to them things..."

This is all that the young man walking down the street hears, as he passes a storefront. He does not see Agnes and Harold, but already knows them well enough, and instead prefers to inspect the leaf in his gloved hands. It's from some sort of new tree that began appearing sparely a few years ago, in the shade of buildings growing spindly and large-leaved like saplings even when approaching five and six feet. It's growing near autumn, and each tree's three leaves are turning now, each one at least a foot wide and a rich burgundy-red not quite like anything he's ever seen before. Nobody knows quite where the seeds came from.
"Zipper's gived," an average townsperson will reply, with the perfectly confounding nature with which people speak familiar but completely nonsensical slang.
Visitors have pondered this. Some interpret it as an acceptance that the walls between boundaries have given, being of their nature able to open and close like a zipper on clothing. A more common interpretation is that it is a mutation of a phrase amounting to "Zephyr's gift," an allusion to the fickle wind warped by careless repetition until rendered indecipherable.

The man pondering the leaf comes back to reality as the cooling breeze picks up again, nudging the long braid between his shoulders and tugging the wide leaf like a sail, and he smiles absently as he lets go. It flies for a few yards, then skitters past hooves and fetlocks, bringing to the his attention a figure and horse, neither of which he can remember seeing in Gladsheim in the year he's been there.
"Hey."
He pauses maybe a yard in front of both, giving a casual half-wave. His skin is lightly tanned after the summer, not the dark brown of the better part of the young men (and a good half of the young women) of the town, who've spent their summer in the fields and pastures and gardens. He wears simple clothing, long dingy-gray shirtsleeves and darker suspenders and trousers. His coat is slung over his shoulder and held there by the collar, of thick cloth and a shade that, despite wear, still makes a good pass at being white. Oddly, a fedora roughly the same shade as his coat lies perched at a slight angle atop his gold-streaked black hair, that alone incongruous about him in the rather unremarkable locale.
He smiles, though the motion is mostly with eyes that pass for light-brown at a distance, unless inspected not obviously gold and reptilian.
"I can't recall seeing you around. You know where the stable is?" he inquires, cocking his head slightly as he questions.

A bay horse loped slowly into the town. The metal of the harness jingled softly as she was slowly pulled back to a walk. The bay snorted loudly and shook her head. The wind played with her mane, and she itched to race with it.
A young woman sat astride the mare with the ease of a long time rider. She was wearing a black cloak with a large Celtic knot embroidered in silver on the back. Dark brown hair was tied back with a leather thong, but a wisp tickled her face as she leaned on the horse.
�How �bout we find you a nice stable, and me a drink and a room?�
The mare nickered in response, and the woman swung her head to look for a stable.

The petite squirrel-woman nods, giving a light smile as her tail and ears vanish once again. "If you'll have me, then I'll be more than happy to teach you."

Setting aside her glass for awhile, Lucy studies her newly-acquired pupil for several minutes. One gets the feeling that those green eyes of hers have seen many more years than her appearance lets on, but they do not reveal much more than that. Only that there is experience in that gaze, and a great deal of patience as well.

The woman seems quite at ease with this new situation, and jumps right into questioning her new pupil.

"What kind of magic are you wanting to learn, then? I know mostly Healing and shapeshifting magics, but I'm also fairly good at fighting spells and things of that nature, too."

Swift-paw enters the bar and see's alot of different animals, but he walks with his head up, not daring to show a sign of cowardness. He looks at the barteder in the eye and asks for a nice cold glass of ale. The bartender goes and gets him his drink, then Swift-paw minds his own buisness and drinks away.

Kitsuki squints blearily at what would appear to be an anthropomorphic representation of a porcupine now sitting at the bar. "S'a spiky thing."

"Porcupine, I believe," Kaligo says helpfully, not batting an eye at their new companion.

Kitsuki grunts. "Spiky. Not good ter eat. And wossname. . . wossname's gotta talking dragon." She eyes the dragon with what would seem to be deep-rooted malevolence. "Dun like dragons."

Kaligo makes no response to that. Indeed, he looks deeply uncomfortable about the subject, and swiftly changes it by addressing Braeden again. "Well, be as that may, I think you'll find yourself staying here longer than planned. Unless you're into dimension-hopping, that is," he adds.

After a few moments of not responding, Amaranthus drops off his stool and lands heavily on his feet. He looks around the bar for a moment, swaying a bit, before pointing a finger around the bar. Said digit bounces from face to face, his gaze following, before stopping on Braeden.

"Why, sir, did you assume I was saying this town was bad by comparing it to the flor... the floritical... er, the florificious... um..." he stops talking for a moment, presumably to think, and stares downward. After what could be judged as exactly one moment longer than one would need to remember, he continues. "...that I was saying the town was bad by comparing it to that plant? Is a venus fly trap bad because it is what it is?" He shakes his head and, feeling all-together more dramatic than he was realling coming across, he staggers forward towards Braeden. "I was simply saying that this town has a way of keeping a body here. Like a Mionaea dusipula. Er, a Dusipula mionaea. Wait, um..." he stops to think again and, in accordance with a saying made popular by t-shirts and bumper stickers, forgets to start again.

Suil's confused, to say the least. Confused, and more than a little curious. (What kind of femmecat would she be if she weren't curious?)

Still, she knew when not to press it, and something about the dragon on Senias's shoulder let her know that pleading her case would get her nowhere.

But he didn't exactly turn her down. Hope is something Suil has a lot of, and it comes in handy now and then...

"...okay, but I'm not going to forget. I'll learn, just watch, then when I'm strong enough, I'll come looking for you. Promise." As soon as she say it, Suil feels Destiny tugging at her soul. Oh yeah, she'll see this strange fellow again one day, she's certain of it.

She just had to bide her time.

Giving Senias a parting smile, Suil gets up and joins Lucy at the bar.

"So... Lucy, right? Is it safe to safe to say you're offering to teach me?" ~I hope.~

Senias is about to thank the stranger, but he's cut short by a tall bit of hyper, talkative cat-critter.

"Whoa, miss. Slow down." Senias leans back, mindful of his small dragon companion on his shoulder. "I would, but..." The redhead pauses long enough to hear Kit's warning and laughs it off. "...comments aside, I would, but..."

"He can't." The dragon lifts its head and glances at Lucy, then lowers it again. "That one is more attuned to you, Ms. Majice. Learning anything from me could be fatal."

"Ah..." Senias sighs. "You're blunt, but y' never explain anything."

"I don't feel a need to, knowing you'll explain anyway."

"...point." Rolling his eyes, Senias turns back, offering Suil a chagrinned smile. "Y'see, miss, I do know magic, but it's not somethin' I c'n teach to just anyone. It's... well, let's just say it's strong, an' more than a little dangerous. You might wanna talk to the lady over there," he nods over towards Lucy, "and learn some more. Mebbe after awhile, if we cross 'gain, well, nobody can see the future..."

"Ahem..."

"Quiet, you." Shaking his head, Senias decides to be blunt and hopes the femmecat will understand.

"I'm really sorry, miss, but I'm not gonna risk anyone dying from trying to learn what I know..."

A shadowed figure walks in the room. People look at it and notice it is a porcuipine. A ferret sitting close to the door thought that he would look good for the maids and walked up to the porcuipine. The ferret asked him his name. The procuipine replied "My name is Swift Needle, and i am form the north of here."

The ferret thought to himself "Time to make a good impression for the ladies." Then the ferret jumped at Swift Needle but didn't get too far. Swift Needle just pushed him away saying " Look bud, all I want is a drink." Then Swift Needle went up to the bartender and asked for an october ale.

There's a chuckle coming from the far end of the bar, and the patron perched upon that barstool turns to face the eager femmecat. "It shouldn't be too hard to find someone to teach you magic here in Gladsheim, Suil."

The person is revealed to be a petite, young-looking woman holding a glass of some sort of wine. Soft-looking strawberry-blonde hair falls halfway down her back, framing a small face that looks delicate and easy to break. At least, it looks that way to people who don't know her. She wears a dark green tunic, which looks slightly out of place due to the jeans that complete the outfit. But on her, it works, in an odd sort of way.

The woman smiles lightly at Suil, swirling the liquid in her glass before drinking some. "As I'm sure you can see, there's quite a few magic users in this place."

One could be dreaming, but did the girl have a tail now? A squirrel-tail, with fur the same shade as her silken hair. And furry squirrel-ears to match.

"Lucy Branch. Nice to meet you, Suil Majice."

Braeden sips at his water, then nonchalantly points out, "Every town has its bad points. For example: my hometown. Some are just less habitable than others." And he takes another long drink of water. "But from what I've seen, I think he may be exaggerating."
After what seems to be consideration, he turns to Kitsuki. "Pardon me, miss. I've met Kaligo, but we haven't been introduced. My name is Braeden Connelly." And there's really not much for him to do now, except sit and wait for her to either smack him, or tell him her name.

"I suppose it is. We hardly get a break ourselves. This town seems pretty quiet, though."

Kitsuki cracks one eye open, then the other. She rouses herself long enough to take a long gulp of coffee, which is by now mostly cold. But she doesn't seem to notice, and she ends up draining the entire mug, finally slamming it down on the counter with a shudder.

"Bleeeeeegh." She blinks blearily. "Where'm I?"

"Don't worry about it," Kaligo says kindly. While the bartender sets a glass of water in front of Braeden he studies the cat-lady out of the corner of his eye. He has nothing against cats, but this one seems awfully. . . bubbly.

"Dun do it," Kitsuki advises Senias, sounding cranky now that she's sober. "Apprentices're a pain in' the ass. So're partners."

Kaligo pointedly ignores Kitsuki's acid comment. "I hope this town isn't as. . . malicious as you make it sound," he says to Amaranthus.

The boy shrugs. "Exciting tales usually seem to find me. I suppose this is a lesson not to go looking for them for me." He looks up at the bartender for a moment- "Have any water?" -and then turns back to Kaligo. He seems nice, and as the rest of the bar doesn't much appeal to him, Braeden smiles slightly, and leans on the counter.

Amaranthus ignores the cat-woman and fixes his gaze directly on Senias, turning in his seat as he does so.

"I think this town's name should be dionaea musipula." He pauses, looks at his hands quizically, then looks back up at Senias and recites from memory; "Dionaea musipula, aka the Venus Fly Trap: The leaf tip has modified itself to form two halves of a trap that once shut is capable of holding a wide variety of insects often larger than the trap. The inner surface of the trap is lined with hairs, 3 on each side. The hairs a clever trigger that must be moved at least 2 times to begin to activate the trap mechanism, this prevents the trap from closing when rubbish or rain drops falls into the leaves. Once triggered a healthy trap will shut in�a fraction of a second to contain the insect, if the triggering of the hairs continues the trap will close tighter and begin the digestive process by releasing the enzymes into the insect that will slowly dissolve the internal tissue of the insect and supply the plant with food." ^[1]

He looks at the babbling cat-woman, the bright creature on Senias's shoulder, the muttering drunk at the bar, then loses interest in the other occupants and mumbles the answer to Senias's question into his chest.

"Sure. Go 'head and park your boots. You stepped on one hair when you set foot in the bar. Why not go for both?"

The moment she steps into the weird (least to her) bar, the femmecat knows she's in luck.

After all, someone who has a dragon on their shoulder has to know magic, right?

"Oh! 'scuse me, sir..." She grabs a chair, heedless of the other patrons and conversations, and plops down in front of Senias. "Are you a magic user? If you are, would you consider taking an apprentice? Please? I'd really like to learn, even if it's just low level. I can work on harder things on my own if I can just get my foot in the door... ah... and I'm babbling again, aren't I? And you don't even know my name." She bows her head by way of introduction. "Suil Majice. And with any luck, I'll be the first priestess in the M'Jubatt Council of Magic Arts...

"...if I can just find someone to teach me, that is."

OOC: I'm thinking of making this board encompass the whole town rather than just the bar, since Gladsheim is starting to grow on me. What do you guys think? Would that be too confusing?

Kitsuki has a tendency to talk in her sleep, or at least mumble and make strange noises. She mumbles something about cats again, then subsides into snoring.

Kaligo chuckles. "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Connelly." He offers one hand to shake. "Kaligo Amerula, but you can just call me Kal. And if you're looking for exciting tales, well, I'm afraid we haven't got much."
