Subject: Topaz on JUSTICE ARNOLD AMET

Posted by Emmanuel Topaz from on November 12, 1999 at 19:34:36:
In the press we read this week how Law Professor Nonggor & Lead Lawyer / Civil Rights lawyer Brunton pleaded (begged would be more appropiate) with Arnold Amet to fix up the court administration so that cases could get on board and be heard. The fact is Arnold Amet is a poor administrator( maybe he was a good lawyer and lawyers dont necessarily make good managers). He has to step down and be replaced immediately or we will court disaster like you wont believe. Its enroute at a pace many dont believe. Arnold has forgotten where he came from and has now assumed a lifestyle of complete absolute luxury. He has lost his common touch with the masses and become pompous and high and mighty. At any one day he can have his three luxury top of the range 4 x 4 vehicles outside his palatial Touaguba house. One vehicle even has leather seats and a sliding sun roof. Each are valued at K300,000 on the road or a total of K900,000 for the common man. He owns one of them too. In addition he lives in a K500,000 luxury house in Touaguba under major renovation. I mean how does he afford it on his salary even one luxury 4 x 4 and just the house alone apart from the renovations? We are investigating claims he owns prime land and in Ela Makana? We do know that from court files he refused to do anything about Thomas Ningiga's sworn Statutory Declaration in that Thomas as Chief Prosecutor at the IPA compnay's office stated the largest exptriate law firm (known as Warner Shand a ghost law firm name - unregistered at IPA for too many years in which millions was paid through it by clients etc)had also appeared through partners and associates in our noble courts ( National & Supreme) for years and years under various additioanl ghost law firm names not only Warner Shand as per Thomas's Stat. Dec. above. Thomas apparently wanted to prosecute the offenders but was frustrated out of IPA.Investigations into the injustices of these exptriate lawyers operating under ghost law firm names over the years will show nationals were bankrupted or put out of businesses or jailed or awarded damages against in the various courts ,but they the expatriate lawyers can escape from detection or prosecution criminally or civilly including aggrieved PNG and / or overseas clients. Arnold did nothing about it even though he got it officially in writing too so the evidence shows. When people like Arnold are too busy "Lording " themselves in the finest luxuries around is it any wonder that those that turn to the law of the jungle to survive when they cant get their cases on or heard - many wind up in jails or on the loose seeking a way of survival albeit illegal because of a failed administrator. Just as Arnolds brother in Lae, Bernard Sakora said it was time to fix up the overcrowded unhealthy jails many of the prisoners would not be there if all the civil matters had been heard on time. Job lay offs pushing them into survival mode is a primary reason or corruption in politics. In reality the lay over of civil claims has turned too many good citizens into criminals as the courts have taken too long to hear their grieviences. And mark my words Nonggorr and Brunton recognise that even if Arnold Amet doesn't.They sense the mood and talk on the streets and hinterlands as they are at the coal face. So move on Arnold and find another sponsor for your luxury lifestyle. Resign with dignity now or be pushed out by a massive street march. You've failed us completely??? We citizens definitely dont need you one day longer. This week is a good week to resign and go out gracefully. We need a replacement who not only has a LLB but a MBA to boot if we are to have any real change management and head off a complete breakdown and non recognition by the public of a hopelessly failed system. We need action, action, action to hear all outstanding civil cases although some are now too dead and the destruction in lost livilhoods tells by the trail of personal distruction including over crowded jails when our youth should be employed but cant or persons displaced in PNG and overseas by a failed system. Too many PNG's are pushed out by expatriate lawyers and greedy politicians working cunningly in a deficient system hoping for the righteous to win but never lasting out the distance to get their just deserts a result of Arnolds gross complacency. Let Arnold try the real world in private on a fresh start up not a piggy back ride with a expatriate or local firm and see how he survives? Let him feel the real life outside his life of security. We need a real PNG man of the people not a forthcoming PNG property baron. Finally based on a recent report there was a man in the PM's office who told the jailed World Bank Dr. he would not get a fair trial. We need to officially correct the record before the Dr leaves PNG. Such people regardless of how badly he performed are not likely to say such things if theres not a element of truth in it. He must have feared something to say it. Thats normal. Then again we cannot rely on Arnold to find out as he has luxury and job security on his mind not the injustice angle or the internatioanal furor that will penultimately follow when the Dr reaches the USA & tells the world the truth plus the details about missappropiated K800,000.aid monies in the Gulf.
