They wouldn't have to care about her destroying the world, cuz they'd all be Uber-vamp bait anyways.

Or possibly cuz they thought the First would sense it, or find out what they were doing, and find a way to fight it.

Maybe the potentials had to be engaged in Slayer activity for the Slayer power to enter them. There was no reference to this in the script, but it would make sense to me.
