Let's see, I've seen a lot of movies this year that I really enjoyed. From Old School right on through to Return of the King, the only two movies I saw in the theaters and did not like much were Freddy vs. Jason and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Of the movies I caught on video, I'll second Bill's voucher of The Italian Job. I was delighted and surprised at how enjoyable that movie was to watch. 28 Days Later, to me, was a great movie for about an hour or so, then it rapidly turned to, for lack of a better word, shit.

And, as much as it was a little on the long side, I think I too will go with Pirates of the Carribean as the best movie I've seen this year. Aside from the fact that going into it, I thought it would suck, and that it's based on a Disney theme-park ride that I've never been on, I found it to be highly entertaining, and provided one of the year's most indelible characters in Captain Jack Sparrow.

It probably won't though. I was glad to see that it at least got some nominations.
