Subject: Last night's episode of Angel: Discuss (spoilers...obviously)
I was amused by the appearance of Dr. Flox when I walked in on the episode halfway through.
So, we have different breeds of werewolves?
I was bothered by Angel's indifference at the restaurant, but it was established that the place was closed at the end.

That bothered me too...(spoilers) -- skinners, 09:47:46 10/16/03 Thu (198.73.106.129)
My mind immediately went to the wine cellar. They closed the restaurant? I missed that.

I taped it, but haven't watched it yet. -- wwolfe, 10:12:04 10/16/03 Thu (161.149.63.107)
I fell into a coma after the Marlins beat the Cubs. It might have also had something to do with the pile of babyback ribs I'd eaten, but I prefer my explanation.
The character's name was Dr. Flox? That's pretty funny.
I'll be interested to see if the restaurant has the legally required letter grade indicating its level of compliance with the City's health code. If there was a sign saying, "Closed for vermin and vampire infestation," I would enjoy it.

Actually... -- Grim ,_,_), 10:16:12 10/16/03 Thu (66.95.229.84)
John Billingsley, who plays Dr. Phlox on Enterprise (I looked up the spelling after my post above) was a guest star this week.
I got home at 9:30 and walked into the room. I looked at the tv and said, "Is that Dr. Phlox?" It can be hard to tell out of makeup, but his voice gave him away.

My thoughts -- Kuzibah, 10:22:53 10/16/03 Thu (12.175.117.195)
You know, it's a bit weird watching this show in the new MotW format after being an obsessed fan for so long. I mean, the show starts out with this five-minute picnic sequence where they bring the audience up to speed: The control the evil law firm, Gunn is now super-lawyer, Wes and Fred have this *thing* (ick), Spike is a ghost, blah, blah, blah, and I'm sitting there thinking, "I know this. I should go to the kitchen and get a Diet Coke." Which is weird, because usually when watching a Whedon show I'm hanging on every word because I just *know* it will be important four episodes hence. But not anymore.
Now, Grim will argue this is good, because you can miss the occasional episode and not be lost. But I don't *want* to miss any episodes. I want to be rewarded for my faithfulness.
Not that I dislike the MotW, but as I said, weird.
Anyway, the rest of the show. First, I need to download soundwaves of DB saying, "...Nina..." in that kind of purring, whispering way. Um, no reason. Why do you ask?
Werewolf Girl was okay. We've seen this story before (Oz, of course, but also, to more or less extent, Doyle, Cordy, Bethany, Electro-Girl, and probably others I'm forgetting), the whole, "I'm a monster and no one will love me" thing, but there were a few interesting twists. Interesting that they decided to shut down the Creature Cafe off-screen, especially since the episode was light on the action already (hey, I like the fights, I notice these things), but maybe this is indicative of a new direction for Angel, where he can withdraw when it's expedient, and let the firm mop up after. Or maybe I'm overthinking.
But the upshot of all these things was to make an episode that didn't really engage me personally. Not that I didn't enjoy it, I just wasn't overly into it. *shrugs* I guess you can't hit one out of the park every time.
A few more comments. No Eve. Let's hope this trend continues.
No Harmony, and I didn't even realize that until I thought about it later. Hmm.
Spike... Interesting developments in his little part of the world. So he's partially transparent now, and sometimes he is unaware of the material world when he is. Why is he so insistent no one but Fred know? Is it because he doesn't trust Angel and Wesley, or because he thinks he can manipulate Fred better? Is he really being sucked into Hell, or is this another story to play Fred? And how about those previews? Well, I'll be tuning in.

there's a rumor the partial nude in question will not be Spike, but Fred, but I can't help wonder what the hell the point of that would be?

If that's true, there would be a few points. No curves. Just points.
Though I will say that it's about time. If I have to hear about NYPD Blue and their ugly butts one more time...

The promo put at the end of this episode had a disclaimer that next week's ep "contained partial nudity."
We'll see if it's that old, familiar Sputt again or perhaps Fripples. Anthony would seem to like that.

This was the first episode I'd seen (even in part) all season. -- LTG, 12:12:52 10/16/03 Thu (141.211.253.127)
WW got moved, I guess.
Mo and I noted that the end felt very much like a WB family drama (including strummy guitars courtesy of Ryan Adams).
Which is okay, but not what I was expecting.
I kind of figured that the werewolfism was supposed to show the girls resentment with her position of babysitter, as a mirror for Angel's own conflicted emotions about his own family.
But who knows.

Ohhhhh, that's who he is. I sat through the entire episode thinking "I know that voice" but I didn't recognized his face.
