Looking at this subject from the stand point of Wicca, It is a personal issue that would best be served by individuals making their own choices without governmental interference, to a point. There are circumstances where the ban of abortions would cause MORE harm, not less. It is that point which needs to be taken into consideration. Some of those situations are when the pregnancy is due to a crime happening as in a rape and or a rape by a stalker. In that case with some of the laws that a father has just as much right to have visits/custody of said child…which also translates into access to the woman to communicate about said child presents many dangers to both the woman and the child. Granted there are laws covering such abuse, but in all honesty it does NOT prevent harm. By the time a Judge agrees there is an issue and a court order is entered it may already be too late. In a different situation, it may come down to a medical issue where family and medical professionals are in a bind due to having to choose to save either the mother or the yet unborn child. The alternative of doing nothing could very well sentence them both to death. That is a shame, especially if there are other children by that mother. There are times like this where it’s almost impossible to “not harm” by making a choice, but to not choose creates even more harm, which can be more wide spread.
Trying to create a law that is fair in all these situations, to all relevant parties appears to be impossible. This brings the issue down to a different level. One that’s more of what causes the least harm, instead of “no harm”. For in situations where there is no possible way to prevent harm, the next best thing is to go at it with what causes the least harm. Yet life is a very dear gift, and all life is important.

Blessings,

Crystal
