Author: Ekasi aand Devon
Subject: Just sittin on the edge of the Den, watching Terole go to war again, wasting tiiiiiiimmmmeee!

Blue-black bulk shifts uneasily under a stressed mind, the tension coming from the scents wafting al across the bloody planet, and of course, Devan's pacing behind her. Red eyes turn back to watch a moment as her mentor continues to pace back and forth, her eyes catching the look of hatred on his face... Esaki grinned half-heartedly, knowing how he felt, he wanted to be out there... in battle.

Her grin was met with a snarl from the equine formed male and the youth jerked back slightly, though, admittedly, unsurprised by his reaction. However, one of her blades flicked out to rest on the smaller males chest. Devon shoved it away harshly... but got the message... and stoped pacing.

And so they waited.

And soon, after days, then weeks, Esaki began to collapse under the anxioty as well. The Den seemed safe! Why couldn't they go help the other Terolians that were losing their lives for their planet instead of sitting here on their erses and sitting with dread in their heart, listening to the thunder of explosions, seeing the black clouds of smoke rise from a blooded ground, and smell... oh gods the smell... smell each new death as it occured, she lunged out the door!

And this time it was Devan's blade was at her chest.

"Despite my own anger, I still stand here, protecting this Den. You believe yourself mighty, but you still have years of learning ahead of you. Consider this a lesson in patience, and a lesson in taking orders. Redwood would soon as slay you at the Expanse if she saw your disobediant hide leaving one of the most important places on her planet unprotected."

"You could protect it!"

Devon sighed with impatience, then lifted his head in a curving snarl, "Wake up cub! And indeed that is all you are! A cub! You see the creatures around you? They are the warriors, as you will someday be. I merely grow older, and the aches in my legs grow worse as the days go by. I hold only the ranking of Guardian, but if I did not, I would be an Elder..." The Nevashi laughed oddly, a harsh sound, "An Old Elder at that. I've lived through two wars, I doubt I'll live through this one."

Esaki snarled, "Don't say that Devon!"

Devon shrugged, "As you wish. But nonetheless, I am old, I've been here perhaps only a year or so less then Seleth, I fought Redwood... gods, I can barely remember those days. Claws and hooves are no match for the new beasts I see piling into the planet these days on the forms of bandits and fugitives. I will soon be replaced and forgotten."

The taller female laid a massive paw on the Nevashi's shoulder, "No mri'qua... never forgotten..."

Again, harsh laughter.

"No, perhaps not cub. Indeed, I do intend to see you... at least basically trained, and then I will perhaps be allowed to leave this terra that has so inspired me and killed me. I shall then return to the mate and cubs I left behind so many years ago in spirit... And hopefully my death will honor them."

Devon pulled away from Esaki's comforting... almost hug, and turned to stare out the entrance of the Den.

"The battle is almost over cub. You see how the smoke rises black. Drakka ships burn on our soil."

Esaki nodded and fell back on her haunches...

And again they waited.
