She headed over with a warm smile on her face. She always was ready to meet another friend, even if she was a bit hot-tempered at times. She saw a strange, clouded look in the girl's eyes, and suddenly it came to her that Jyssa was blind. She hesitated only a moment before she spoke. "Hello. Who might you be?" She extended a hand hesitantly. She had never met a person who couldn't see before, and was entirely unsure how the rules changed. "I'm Lian."

She stepped back, glancing at the girl with what might almost have been apprehension. She didn't want to insult someone who might be a possible friend. But then she realized the girl was probably used to things like that, unless her blindness was a recent thing. You probably grew accustomed to reactions, good and bad, and might even be grateful that someone didn't make fun of her. Lian wouldn't know, and hoped she would never have to know, but as they said, a handicap doesn't define a person. Lian smiled again and hoped the girl could somehow feel the smile, even if she couldn't feel it.

She wasn't one for many words, so she stayed silent. Lian walked among the eggs, brushing one here, taking a good long look at another there. When she finally came to the queen egg, she was awed by its size, and the aura that seemed to cast a phosphorescent glow into the air about it, though in reality the egg just had an extra golden sheen. Nothing special. Except it was special. All the eggs were special. Within them was captured the future of the whole of Pern. Lian let out an almighty sigh, placing a reverent hand on the peak of the egg. Oh, how that egg inspired her. Though she most certainly wasn't a harper, at that moment she felt she could write a ballad, on anything at all. A thrill of sudden creativity filled her, and she felt a need to use it somehow. After all, if such was a gift, how could one turn it down? She turned back to Jyssa, realizing she'd been ignoring the girl. "I'm sorry; did you say something to me? The egg. . . it caught me in its spell, I suppose. I'm not normally this rude."
