Getting in the Bible

What did it take to get in the Bible? Miracles, martyrdom, great prophecies, visions, victories at war? Did you have to do something so bad someone used you as an example? What?
In 1 Chronicles 4, I noticed Jabez in the middle of a genealogy of more than 400 names. Of all those names, King Solomon stops and makes a statement only about Jabez. Who is he? What did he do that was so special that he got two verses in the Bible? Why him?
First Chronicles 4:9–10 says, "Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, ‘I gave birth to him in pain.’ Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request."
The only thing we know about Jabez is that he was honorable, more than his brothers.
Honor…what is it? We have lost the true meaning of honor in our generation. Thankfully, this short bio of Jabez can help us regain something of what it means to be a man or woman of honor.
1. First, true honor is birthed in pain. You can’t lie, and you can’t show disrespect to parents or authorities. You have to serve rather than be served. You have to try to do what is right in every situation. That’s not easy for anyone! It will cost you everything.
2. Second, pray and cry out to God. Honor Him with every decision in your life. If He is God, He knows what is best for you.
3. Third, you must ask God to enlarge your hunger—your "territory," your realm of influence—to share Jesus with others.
What will happen if you, as a young person, will be honorable in principle, duty and respect? What will happen if you cry out to God and give Him first place in your life with every decision? What will happen if you give your life to the great kingdom purpose of sharing God’s love? That’s easy: He will grant you the desires of your heart, just as He did for Jabez.
Now go back and read Psalm 62 one more time.
