Topic—Objects of Delight

Power Point—God is all-powerful, and if we will trust Him, He is able to save us from every situation.

This Week’s Memory Verse—Zephaniah 3:17

Access Database—Daniel 3

God Is My Bodyguard

by Doug Lasit

The most difficult thing for us to remember about God is that our battles are His battles. When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego stood against Nebuchadnezzer (see Daniel 3), had they not remembered this, they would have died.

"Now, what god will be able to save you" (Dan. 3:15, paraphrase)?

When Neb spoke these words He was really talking to God, not men. He called God out…and God showed up. What would have happened if the guys had said, "I don’t know!" This story might have ended differently. Thankfully, they stood their ground.

"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up" (Dan. 3:16–18).

These three seniors from Babylonia High were obedient and faithful to God. You see, our job is to be faithful. God’s job is to show up. And He always shows up. Just when you think that all hope is gone, He shows up. Hope is the key to faith. Because of our hope, we have faith. This faith helps us think like men and women of God and not mortals.

Neb: Whoa, hoss! Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?

Guards: Straight up, O king.

Neb: Unless my bifocals are messing up, I see four men walking around in the fire! And they seem to be having a chat with some guy that looks like a son of the gods.

When you are in the fire with Jesus the only things that burn are the things that have you bound. Going through a tough time is God’s way of teaching us lessons and bringing freedom into areas of our lives. God saves! And every time that our faithfulness intersects with His power, God is glorified through our lives.

Now go back and read Daniel 3 one more time.
